Anybody from Apple cares to answer the question ?.

And how do we know if it is eligible for the replacement? Do you just mail it in and wait to see if they will mail one back? And if not, does Apple return it to you? I have a first gen. ipod nano as described in the recall.

When you enter your iPod's serial number on this page, http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/ I believe that verifies whether it's eligible or not. I submitted my serial number through that webpage earlier today and then submitted my address and it said they would mail me a package with instructions on how to mail my iPod to them and then they would send me the replacement after they receive my iPod.

Same for Same. Ipod Nano - 1st Gen

Are we getting a brand new first generation ipod nano?

Or are they going to take ours, replace the battery, and ship it right back to us with all of the scratches/dings/damage that we've put on that device over the years?

More likely a refurbished unit with a 90 day warranty

Hello 914.  How do you know you get the same model nano?  Apple has not specified this anywhere, and that would require them to have thousands of first generation nanos lying around, which doesn't seem likely.

I'd love Apple to confirm this, as I really like my first gen nano, and am concerned about sending it in and receiving a different model in exchange.

    Are you listening, Apple?!

Yes, come on apple ! we need a real note about this.. same for same or a new generation ? I want to know before sending my lovely ipod

According to this article on Mashable, http://mashable.com/2011/11/13/ipod-nano-replacements/ an Apple spokesperson confirmed that the iPods will be replaced with another first-generation iPod Nano. They also mentioned that Apple refused to respond to questions about why they have been so vague about the whole program.

How will they have that many 1st gen nanos? Maybe they're just repairing our nanos?

I found this article saying it will be the newest generation....

IMO i think they will replace as many as they can with the older versions... when those run out the newer ones will be sent out.  APPLE is already taking a big hit on this... they will try to minimize cost as much as possible.

Thats why they haven't released a lot information.  It makes changing the conditions that much easier.

Well they don't call it the refurbish or repair program.

So I looked up the word Replacement in the Oxford English Dictionary and it states Replacement is "a person or thing that takes the place of another:" So to my thinking I will not just get back my old Ipod nano with a new battery but sonething different in its place. So a new 1st Gen or some later model. Don't have access to the Apple Dictionary so will have to wait and see.

Very happy with my 1st Gen Nano and don't specially like the look of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Gen so i wish apple would let me know what the replacement is so I can make an informed decision to send it back or not.

Expecting a box any day now to send it back so hopefully more info will surface soon

I've been on hold for close to 2 hrs trying to find answer ... so far everyone says, they haver not been told ...

HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD? how useless is that ... I just went out and bought the iPod radio thingy on Monday - it is OK as long as you charge it up EVERY night - I bought is because a friend said I could listen to npr on it (vs my Sony headphones which have had it - ) - I replaced the Sony battery once every 4 months or so (6 hrs listening ea day approx) - the new iPod radio works 5 hrs at best (without that live replay thing activated) - I'm truly so disappointed ... plus

I am so disgusted ! This seems like the most elementary of answers ... makes me think they are hiding something, and so am now suspicious ... I do not want the same thing I just bought (8GB radio one) - I want my old one back, minus fire issues!

OK PEOPLE - I have just spent 15 mins on the phone with a Senior specialist (or some such title) after a close to 3 hr wait (I was not about to give up, let me tell you!) - he said that they have no idea what will be sent out to people - it'll be something from what they have in stock 2nd- 5th generation, they don't know exactly.

I told him I had just had the battery replaced in my 1st gen about 6 mos ago- he said that will be fine as long as it isn't the same battery that has caused the orginal problem ... OK say I, what battery is it you had in the 1st gen? "oh I don't know" says he, well why not, say I  - well that is "internal dept info and we cannot know or give that out"- give me a break ... it is IMMMORAL to be generous, that they will not reveal this info -
I told him I am taking my new (useless as far as it working for more than 5 hrs) iPod radio back and will not be buying any Apple product ever again, plus giving the so-called friend that recommended this a piece of my mind ...

ONE MORE THING ... it would have been nice if  Apple had sent an email to us all (god knows they bombard us with all sorts of other spam)  instead of me having to find this (purely accidentally) on a British newspaper's website ... I am beyond appaulled.
