My location is the United States.  After I registered my Nano for repair on the Appleweb as insturcted in the e-mail, a pre-paid mailer arrived by United Parcel Service (UPS) about one month later.  Two wweks after that, I received an e-mail from Apple stating that my old Nano had been received and that a replacement was being shipped.  Two days later, UPS delievered the replacement.  Total was about one month, two weeks and two days.

Depending on where you live and what shipper is involved, your experience could be much different than mine.  Hopefully, you retained your part of the label from the repaid mailer.  Perhaps you can take that to your shipper and ask the shipper to trace whether or not your iPod was delivered to Apple.

The sad part is that your replacement product may not even be the same iPod Nano model.  In my case, Apple sent a sixth generation Nano - which does not work with any of the accessories I already own.  We're not talking about shady unlicensed accessories, but mainstream accesories from: Belkin, iHome and Memorex, that are not compatible.

I hear you load and clear my nano has been in their pending status file since Dec 26 I just wish they would email me or let me know what is up with mine. I would think 29 days in pending a little long.  IcIe

PS USA also! No emails or any contact from them?

I received a new up-to-date ipod touch-screen 8GB nano. What a great swap for a 6 year old walking timebomb!  Can't believe some are moaning!  Well done Apple.

Well the reason some people are complaining is that they have hundreds of dollars in accessories designed for the Ipod Nano 1st generation that will no longer work with the 6th generation Ipod Nano.  With that said there is an easy solution.  Sell the new one Apple sends to you at one of the many locations that buy these products and you will probably get $60 - $75 for it then take that money and buy a 2nd or 3rd generation Nano off of Ebay for the money you got for the new one....Problem solved as most of the accessories you bought for your 1st generation will still work fine with the 2nd and 3rd generation Nanos.

My solution was to get a 5g video iPod which I will cover with invisible shield the same as the nano I submitted to Apple.

As the 1g nanos big brother with the same styling it is compatable with a lot of the same accessories. A super upgrade!

There will be no compatibility difference between the 5th and 6th generation iPod Nanos.

  • impulse_telecom Level 3 (635 points)

The compatibility problem is that Apple removed the FireWire connection from the Nano's interface connection - not sure if it was in Generation 2 or Generation 3.  Many older iPod accessories from iHome, Belkin, Memorex, etc. use the 12 volt FireWire connetion to supply charging power.  The newer iPods have to receive charging power through the USB pins of the interface.

There is also a physical compatibility problem with the location of the interface connector.  The connector has been moved left or right several millimeters in succeeding Nano generations.  For instance, the Gen 2 Nano will not fit in the sleeve of my Belkin TuneBase.  The Gen 3 does fit, but has problems because the FireWire interface is no longer there.  The Gen 6 Nano doesn't fit the sleeve either, but probably would not be able to programatically interact with the TuneBase electronics anyway.  (The TuneBase for Nano does not use adapter plates as some other devices use

Giving props to Apple, the Gen 6 Nano is way cool, and maybe I'll eventually phase out my accessories and switch to using it as my main listening device.  I think the sound quality of the Gen 6 is a little better too.

I was referring to the 5G Video iPod released about a month after the original Nano and which has a similar compatibility with accessories.

So if anyone really doesn't want their new 6g nano, I have another early nano that didn't qualify for the replacement. I will swop if you want?  Seriously....

Well....update of Nano replacement here in the UK.

After I received my shipping number confirming despatch with UPS, serial number saying 4GB silver 6th GEN replacement - great...

However, UPS tracking number never worked.  Contacted Apple after a week of no delivery after despatch email, who were then looking into it.

Got a phone call update tonight - essentially it has been lost somewhere between Apple and UPS, who are covering liability...

    GOOD NEWS!!

Due to the loss, delay, hassle etc they are now replacing it for me with a BRAND NEW 8GB Nano, my colour choice (red), full 12 months warranty registered as new (not recon/limited warranty like the others) and even personalised for me too   Mega service - now had my 6 year old scruffy Nano 1st Gen 1GB replaced by a brand new 8GB version free of charge.

    Hope this one arrives OK!

    Brian

Hey, if you're lucky, that might get lost and they'll send you an iPod Touch
