It's been just over six weeks from the date it changed to replacement pending - I phoned apple and they advised it would be 'up to' another 10 working days

That's a bit weird! When the replacement thing was submitted it said that it would take up to 6 weeks to replace. Mine took 6 weeks to the day! If you don't here anything, chase them up again. BTW when they do eventually send out another one, you'll receive it the day after they post it. You won't have to wait long once they do!

I just got an confirmation email today of what my replacement product's serial number is and I checked on this website, http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php, apparently it's an sixth generation nano. Maybe they ran out of the other gen or something.

Hope this give you an idea of what you can be expecting to receive.

So I just received my replacement nano in the mail today.  It was indeed the silver 6th gen that I was hoping for, but I am having headphone and powering down issues with it.  My headphones are all the way in, and I have tried multiple headphones with it.  Not working!  I was very impressed with how Apple was handling this situation until now.  Way to put a damper on an exciting situation.

Does it work properly if you put it into a dock?

I'm not sure because I don't have a dock with me right now.  It would be awesome if I were just being stupid instead of something being wrong with it haha.

Got mine back! 6 weeks to the day: Opened the box that they sent - a brand new, shiny silver 6th gen 8gb ipod nano! So happy!

BEWARE: If you are going to recieve a 6th gen, make sure you have a case for it... dropped mine yesterday (2 days after getting it) and chipped a bit off the corner. It's my perception that they are not really as durable as the 1st gens.

    Hope this helps!

Yep, it works fine on Bose, Apple universal docks (tried it!) and pretty much any other sound system I think!

This is my experience thus far.  I put in my request in November.  Received the mailer to send it to them in January.  I just received an email on the 9th that the product has shipped and will be arriving in two days.  I was overjoyed, UNTIL ....

... I saw it was being delivered through FedEx.  I have lived here for four years, and I receive packages all of the time from UPS and USPS.  There is never any problem, they ring my doorbell, I answer, sign, and that is that.  FedEx, on the other hand, is the most incompetent service it has ever been my displeasure to deal with.  Because of this companies policy's, customer service, and delivery people, I have had nothing but headches since the 11th.  Yes, it has only been 4 days, but they "tried" to deliver the package Saturday morning, (I was home), and stated on the tracking service on their website that there was a delivery exception, (Business closed).  My residence is not a business.  There are businesses around me, but the shipping lable clearly states I am in an apartment.  Then I waited all day Monday, ... nothing.  I called customer service, with the most detailed instructions on where I am in the building, (on the 2nd floor, like the address says), sparing no details, (even stating on which side and how far up the doorbell is).  I also left my phone number in case of any confusion or problems.  This morning, I am waiting, and waiting, and waiting.  I check the website around 11:15 ... another delivery exception was posted at 9:20 in the morning, again stating that the business is closed.  I have been here all day, waiting for the doorbell to ring or my phone to ring.  So, I call customer service, who through a lengthy process, finally put me in touch with the dispatcher.  She tells me that the driver will be notified and will come back today.  I ask if he has been given my phone number on the box and the instructions on where I am in the building.  She said, "you mean the 800 number on the package?"  WHAT!?!?! NO!  We'll see if this works out.  I may update later.

The reason I am so infuriated is this is the third time having to deal with this situation from this company.  Like I stated before, UPS and USPS have no troubles delivering here, but FedEX seems to get lost every time.  I swore I would never use them again when I was expecting a custom made engagement ring for my now wife which was lost in Limbo for two weeks.  I finally received it just 7 hours before our flight took off to Hawaii, which I needed the ring for.  In this situation, Apple called the shots of who to use to send the package.  Also, for some strange reason, FedEx will not hold this package at their location, it must be delivered, and it must be signed for.  I asked my boss why anyone would use this service ealier today, and he told me because it's cheaper than everyone else.  Well, I can see why.

Do you have to make an appointment with a genius to take an iPod into the apple store or can any member of staff validate the serial number as I have several first generation nano's, all of which say that the serial number cannot be found on Apple's records!

After 3 attempts in the UK finally got my ipod return envelope! Now after them recieving my ipod at the start of January still no sign of any shipment back after nearly six weeks!

I am in the UK, it is well over 6 weeks since Apple received my Ipod back (had to chase for over a month to get the envelope). I am still waiting for my replacement Wish there was better communication from Apple regarding the delay and when we can expect the replacements!

I verified through the 1st gen Nano Replacement Program, Dec 30th, 2011 that mine was eligible.  I typed 'Nano Replacement Program' in the search box and it took me to the right page.  I typed in my serial number and then followed the instructions.  Today I received an email that my new Nano has been shipped.  I had called last week curious what the status was.  Tiffany said that there were far more responses than they had anticipated and that the odds were good that I would receive a 6th gen Nano!  In the email that they had notified me that it shipped, it also included the serial number of my new Ipod.  Ran the serial number in the warranty section, and sure enough it is a gen 6!!
