Uh, they DID email everyone and you know apple didn't really have to do any of this. What other company do you know says hey there might be something wrong with our old more than 5 y/o product send it back we will give you a pretty much brand new one in its place.

a company worried that their product would burst into flames?

    Exactly, donmackeen.

spartan:  I agree the concept of the replacement of an ancient product is admirable.  But Apple "will give you a pretty much brand new one in its place"?   As far as I know, no one knows what Apple will be sending. That is the ridiculous part, IMO. They are asking us to send in our units with no hint of what we will get back.

They still haven't sent me the box - my theory is that they don't want to ship people out free iPods right before Christmas.  Chances are some of them would become gifts that would otherwise require a purchase.

I got my box in the mail today. I think I filled out the request form the day they announced the nano replacement program. Anyway, good luck to you all with receiving your boxes in a timely fashion!

And michaelfrombethel, I doubt anyone had the intention of gifting their 1st gen nano replacement for Christmas. That would be a pretty lame present. I hope you weren't intending to do so.

I have been reading about all the issues with apple getting boxes out etc...  I got the apple rep to let me take it to a UPS store and ship it there.  She just gave me a code to give the person at the UPS store and they ship it using thier supplies.  Don't know it this helps but might be worth a try for those waiting on a shipping box.

I filled out the "replacement" forms online on Nov 13th.  I still have not received the boxes.  Called

Apple support on December 10th.  After five minutes on hold, reached an apologetic service rep who said that boxes were taking at least 3-4weeks to ship out.  Response was "overwhelming with tens of thousands of requests."

I reponded to the email the same day I got it ( in Nov) her is is Dec 10th and I just got the box 10 minutes ago. Good Luck Everybody, I know I was getting to wonder where the box was now it is going to wonder what they are going to send back. I really like the size and the shape of this nano but when I was having issues with it I went out and bought a 320 gb classic. When I get the replacement back if I don't like it it is going to be my husbands.

Apple is too cheap to understand that it took 5 years to find out that the battery was poop, I'm really disappointed with them in all aspects. I have a defective iphone as well so i wonder what kind of excuse they're going to give for giving me a referbished one as a replacement

just received an email yesterday saying my new nano is being shipped and to allow two business days to receive it.  After going to the website listed above and putting in the new serial number they sent in the confirmation email, it seems a 6th gen nano is being sent to me.  8gb or 16gb not sure, but that it was produced in the 42nd week (oct) of '11.  so new nanos are being shipped.  wee!!!!!

I requested the replacement back in mid-November and still have yet to receive the shipping materials. Anyone else in the same boat? I live in Canada, maybe that has something to do with the delay lol.

I hate to say that you may be disapointed when products are refurbed they are routinley given a new serial number as the casing is changed and the production date will be when it was refurbed and would be used for the 90 day warrenty.

As far as I know no one has had anything other than a same spec refurb Nano Gen 1 please prove me wrong

I requested the replacement on Nov the box on Thursday and dropped it off at Fedex Friday morning.  I'm guessing it will be a few weeks until I get anything back.  My Nano had been dead for about 2 yrs so I guess I'll take anything at this point.

    Fedex ?

Mine all went back UPS Ground. Hmmm

  • mcm21078 Level 1 (0 points)

yes it was Fedex ground.  I had to drop it off at a facility, there were instructions to NOT use a drop box because I don't think they will take ground packages.
