will updating the OS reset everything?

my dad got an old iBook with an old OS (10.4.11) from one of his friends, but his friend had a password on it and never gave it to him. i was going to get Mac OS X Lion, and i wonder if getting it will reset everything, including the password?

iBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hi DJ,

Lion won't install on an iBook, it like 10.6 before it is for IntelMacs only.

Is it a firmware password or just the login Password?

If just login, try this...

Reset OS X Password Without an OS X CD...

Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... give the new User a different name than an existing one.
