Keep being asked to enter pw for CalDAV account for "Google". What is this?

Just upgrated the OS on my iPhone 3Gs to the latest updated OS5.

I now keep getting a popup on screen that says:

Password Incorrect

Enter the password fot he CalDAV account "Google"

I have no idea what this means and it is really annoying as I tend to always use the same number of passwords and no matter which password I enter, this popup just won't go away. This popup is actually stopping me from using the iPhone as it is constantly popping up.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and how do I remove this ever so irritating popup that has crippled my iPhone?

Same problem started here too, the day after updating to OS5.0.1. Frustrating!!

Have you added a Google account and enabled calendar syncing in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars

For me, this is a 3 year-old google account which has worked without any issues (& on this iphone for 2 years). No changes made recently to any settings.

I did exactly as Julian suggested but found that the password I entered was being rejected.

Currently, I've just deleted the Google account as I was unable to use the phone because of the continual popup telling me to enter the correct password (which I had done, repeatedly).

Both iOS and Google have made numerous changes in the past 2-3 years so external factors could be what's causing this, not necessarily something that's changed at your end.

If you have Calendar syncing enabled, but no calendars to sync in Google, try turning off Calendar syncing and just leave email enabled.

Also, Google occasionally "locks" accounts from external access (mobile devices), so try unlocking it here: https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha

Julian,

I've deleted the Google Calender sync and have my Gmail account just syncing mail and notes. Since doing this, the pop up is no longer happening.

I do sync with google calendars, so need to keep those enabled. I did actually turn off the iphone & on again and the pop-up hasn't recurred since then, which was about 30 mins ago (it had been every few seconds, repeatedly). Fingers crossed the simple re-boot did the trick!!

Have also just implemented the unlock, as per Julian's last note. Thx v much for your advice.

I just started having this problem (Oct 2015). I just cancel out of it and proceed as usual. It is annoying but I'm not locked out of my iphone.

An App password is a 16-digit passcode that gives an app or device permission to access your Google Account. If you use 2-Step-Verification and are seeing a “password incorrect” error when trying to access your Google Account, an App password may solve the problem. Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.
