Invalid SIM Card on iPhone 4S (5.0.1)

Seems to be a widespread problem, from what I'm seeing in the discussions:

I have an unlocked iPhone 4S (bought in France) and use it with Vodafone in Portugal. I was using the same SIM card that worked perfectly fine for over a year on my previous iPhone 4, and it also worked just fine in the 4S... until I updated to iOS 5.0.1.

The very next day I started having connections issues and invalid SIM card errors - requiring a reboot to temporarily fix it for a few minutes, until it lost connection again - the iPhone would still show it had a few bars strength, but was actually unable to make calls or use data. After a while it would go back to invalid sim message.

I replaced my old SIM card, and I though that was it... It was working fine.. until after 3 or 4 days, I find once again that I had a Invalid SIM message.

I've read reports suggesting that this might actually have to do with using other chargers than the official Apple 4S one - it sound kind of crazy, but just in case, I was also using a 3rd party charger when those issues arised for the first time. Anyway, I was now using my previous official iPhone 4 charger when I got the new error with the new SIM card.

Also, although the iPhone recommends using a non-locked SIM Card, mine has always had a PIN, and always worked through activations without a problem.

Other than being a real hardware problem with my new iPhone 4S (crossing my fingers it isn't!) my guess is that this is a software related incident - as this has just popped up after upgrading to iOS 5.0.1, and it would have been an amazing coincidence for SIM cards to go bust, or for the iPhone 4S to suddenly malfunction, afterwards.

Hope you guys can fix it soon, as well as the phone numbers not showing up the callers name in the contacts (that was a problem I was having from the very beginning, with iOS 5.0.0).

Same here...

48 hours since 5.1 update....

NO Invalid Sim, NO No Service, No Searching, NO phone lockups..... and battery is still at 50% after one day of normal use with 3G, wifi and location services switched on

I take back what I said before about doubting that all these problems could be fixed by a software update... apparently it can.... too bad it took so long

Hallo,allemaal..

Volgens telfort was alles via hun in orde!!!

t.a.v. Apple... Graag volgende keer, sneller een oplossing, had bijna mijn vertrouwen verloren in dit geweldig produkt....

I was waiting for the iOS5.1 as it was noticed by developers that the update to iOS5.1 solved the problem of "INVALID SIM" "SEARCHING" :NO SERVICE".

I upgraded the iOS to 5.1 and the problem disappeared.

This is Apple. For the last one month i put my SIM in the Wifi modem and was using the Iphone as Ipad. Now that is changed and now the Sim is in its slot in the iPhone4S and performing excellent.

Now the iPhone4S is the real smart phone in the market.

Thanks to Apple. Now I have Apple TV also athome and streaming all from net and Iphone to my HD TV.

Great feeling.

Here's my update so far.

I have not had to reboot my phone even once from the minute I installed ios5.1. No invalid sim or signal drops so far.

One thing I have observed though. The signal strength is not strong at most places as it should be. The average signal strength during the whole day remains at 3-4 bars. These are all places where I used to have full signal on my earlier 3GS. Anybody else notice this?

The battery definitely seems to have improved. Still monitoring the battery for a couple of days to give a verdict.

u getting the invalid sim message has got me concerned. Hope it's a sim issue this time.

Cheers

Dear the problem of Invalid Sim started only with the 4S.

IP3, IP3GS, IP4 were all perfect and there was no problem at all. Invalid SIM issue started only with IP4S.

After upgrading to iOS5.1. I did not get any problem and many of us had confirmed that it solved the problem in 4S.

Hope every one will have a good time with 4S and iOS5.1

Here goes my iPhone experience..

I have my iPhone 4s for almost 3 months. Since the second week into owning it, it has the no sim card error intermittently - for minutes it worked and minutes later the error comes. For days, shutting it off and restarting or reset network helps, then days later, the no sim error came and decided to stick around for a week or two. Now 5.1 came, the cycle is starting at the minutes on and off stage. During all these time, I had to: restore no less than 30 times; tried at least 6 new sim cards with multiple major phone service carriers; Upgrade after upgrade of ios; phoned online supports one after one; AND here I am still with no solution ..and no help from apple!

Tried to get at least an exchange and to my great dissappointment, apple is not willing, but supposingly my phone came with a one year warranty?! The Apple store in Canada where I purchased from, leaves me with either dropping my work to fly to Canada to get an exchange or beg the local apple support team to exchange it for me in China?!! The online tech supports say to go for a mail in service with Canada.. And still I am being kicked around.

I brought an unlocked (unmodified) npbrand new phone and am using an apple recognized phone service company in china..now all I have is a NO EXCHANGE and no phone iPhone!

Is there something not making sense or I have gone crazy?
