Invalid SIM Card on iPhone 4S (5.0.1)

Seems to be a widespread problem, from what I'm seeing in the discussions:

I have an unlocked iPhone 4S (bought in France) and use it with Vodafone in Portugal. I was using the same SIM card that worked perfectly fine for over a year on my previous iPhone 4, and it also worked just fine in the 4S... until I updated to iOS 5.0.1.

The very next day I started having connections issues and invalid SIM card errors - requiring a reboot to temporarily fix it for a few minutes, until it lost connection again - the iPhone would still show it had a few bars strength, but was actually unable to make calls or use data. After a while it would go back to invalid sim message.

I replaced my old SIM card, and I though that was it... It was working fine.. until after 3 or 4 days, I find once again that I had a Invalid SIM message.

I've read reports suggesting that this might actually have to do with using other chargers than the official Apple 4S one - it sound kind of crazy, but just in case, I was also using a 3rd party charger when those issues arised for the first time. Anyway, I was now using my previous official iPhone 4 charger when I got the new error with the new SIM card.

Also, although the iPhone recommends using a non-locked SIM Card, mine has always had a PIN, and always worked through activations without a problem.

Other than being a real hardware problem with my new iPhone 4S (crossing my fingers it isn't!) my guess is that this is a software related incident - as this has just popped up after upgrading to iOS 5.0.1, and it would have been an amazing coincidence for SIM cards to go bust, or for the iPhone 4S to suddenly malfunction, afterwards.

Hope you guys can fix it soon, as well as the phone numbers not showing up the callers name in the contacts (that was a problem I was having from the very beginning, with iOS 5.0.0).

Brand new iPhone 4S with ATT. Got invalid sim message less than 24 hours after activating. I tried rebooting and the airplane mode reboot - neither fixed the problem for long. Then I went to the local ATT store where they installed a new sim. Its been almost 24 hours so far and no invalid sim message. Phone seems to be operating normally.

Same f*cking problem! Vodafone, Czech Republic. After 5.0.1 update and few days of using I had "Invalid SIM card" once every day. Restart helped but I must do it every day! I ordered iPhone 4S in first Czech wave, no battery issues but only this. I don't know how to fix it, maybe 5.1 update? What do you think send it back or wait? I don't think it is a hw problem...

I have 5.0, never updated to 5.0.1. and have had this issue intermittently for 48 hours now. My husband on the other hand, also has a 4s updated to 5.0.1, does not have this issue. --yet!

we've tried: 1)resetting phone 2) remove sim card, cleaning and the replacing the card. this worked for 8hrs. 3) turn off cellular data 4) restoring... and yet, still "No SIM"

I'm going on 24 hours straight now. I'm beginning to have iPhone withdrawal.

I contacted the customer Service in France about that invalid sim problem on a brand new Iphone 4 S.

I received the answer that their engineers are working on the issue and I should install the next update asap.

The customer service is calling me from time to time to see if there is somthing new and to give me some information to make me wait.

So it seems that it is a software issue ( that anyway most of us already suspected) and that next update hopefully ....

Guys please help. All you with SIM problems, are you able to make a call? When I try to call, it just holds calling screen (no metter if I press Cancel button). Then in 30sec period operator logo changes to "Searching". Sometimes in few minutes I am able to recieve calls again. When I just got iPhone out of box and updated it I was able to make few calls that day, but from then 3 days in row 0 successful calls from my side. But I am able to answer when phone sees my operator and somebody is calling. Also I can call on my 4s when microsim is removed (without sim tray).

Next week I will try to get big SIM, cut it and see what happens. As I saw on other forums, some operator SIM cards with specific design works. And from photos I see that SIM that I had on my 3G should work, but it was deactivated and changed to original microsim, that does not work on 4s.

Thank you Apple for all the time I already wasted for trying to solve problems, that you should be solved before releasing iPhone 4s and iOS 5.
