Before I sell my iPhone 3GS I want to completely wipe all data.

What is the best way to do this?

Will the data be retained and accessible on my MB?

TIA.

Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings...or restore your phone as a "New" device in iTunes, do not sync after doing so, rather eject the phone. Both accomplish the same thing...wiping your phone.

The data from your phone will still be in your iPhone backup, however your backup is not directly accessible...requires third-party software. You can use that backup to restore to a new iPhone.
