Q: iphone4s can't use China Mobile's sim card after updating to 5.01

I've changed my sim card at China Mobile store in Guangzhou and it turns out that I can't even make 1 phone-call!! The staff told me that because there's problems or bugs with the 5.01 upgrade. Now I was forced to use China Telecom and everything's smooth like heaven. Hope apple will have an update for the China Mobile's user^^

Thank you for your note. I talked to the Apple Store Manager who said they can not do anything now until the iPhone 4S is released in China. I guess you are right, I was nice about it and did not want to be nasty but sometimes you need to push for your right. They have checked my phone and found that it is still under warantee.

I called the service number and lodged a complaint, got just a "we are sorry" reply but no offer for further action.

You have motivated me to take it further. I appreciate your post.

    With best,

Hey, I gave back my phone to the seller two weeks ago and he told me I've to wait so that they send the phone to UK (supplier) to change for me! He said it may last 1 month!

Anyway , I want to know when I take back a new one should I upgrade it to 5.0.1 again or not?!

I'm afraid of a repeatative problem!

    tnx

Your best bet is to take your new phone to a Genius at an Apple Store for update. Don't do it yourself.

TheAT is right, don't take a chance yourself nima.br2010 if there is a shop around. If no shops within a reasonable distance ring the support number for your country and get them to run through it with you as you go.

I should imagine if they replace the phone in the Uk then there should no longer be a problem with the operating system on the new phone.

But if you do need to upgrade certainly do it but by either way mentioned.

    Dear sykes1st

To get back to your sim card question yes you can keep the sleeve (or adaptor) when they give you your micro  sim.  The micro sim pops out of a regular sized SIM card sleeve so you can just keep the bigger card sleeve and when you need to use it in say 3GS you just pop it back and it works.

Hi Bunnyhon, thanks very much for that, I don't speak Chinese and my wife is a bit vague about some things, so once I know I can persist with the subject.

nima.br2010, you said you were afraid of a repeat problem that's why we suggested you get them to do it if comes back and is not updated. You can ask when you pick it up. If you feel confident enough, do it your self, but they really should have the up to date operating system in the UK by now.

The saga continues, told by senior advisor set up new user on the computer and download an up todate itunes just in case the original is currupted in some way, told if still the same result after attempted update they will replace. Tried  each of the update and restore, no difference, comes back with answer the file in the firware is not compatable with the update. It appears to have downloaded the update but can't install.

Rang Apple support again to tell them the results, passed to senior adviser straight away, a different one. He read through the notes said ok looks like the phone needs replacing but have you tried downloading from another computer, may be a problem with mine. "My God" where does it end!!!.

I had a moan but agreed to do it, my wife's computer did not have itunes on it so i downloaded another new version of itunes, no chance of corruption, and did the updates again. The same bloody result!!!!!!!

This chap was going to liase with customer relations and see what they can do.

God only knows how much time I have spent on this.

I will let you all know the result, basically it has been agreed to replace the phone if this last update attempt failed. I will try to make the necesaary arrangements tomorrow.

It is so annoying with all this crap as you can tell thet these senior advisers know of the problem when you are talking to them but go through all this rubbish as if a miracle is going to happen.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've given my iphone to supplier for approximate 1month but there's no sign of replacement !!!

Whenever I tell them, They reply me that you've to wait!!!

I'm really confused ! Maybe I was the first one bought this phone in my city but now I couldn't have used it for more than 1month!!! I really didn't expect Apple to release such defective phones!

I know your frustration nima.br2010, unfortunately it is a bad time of the year with the post usually being overloaded due to Christmas and the holiday periods don't help either when you are waiting for something.

Keep chasing it up, if you keep annoying them enough they will actually try and find out just to get rid of you.

I really don't know what can be done, Is the seller an authorized Apple shop? Is the iphone 4s on sale in Malaysia? It just seems strange that the phone needs to go to the Uk for exchange as they are the suppliers. It sounds more like the shop has bought the phones from some one in the UK, maybe authorised, maybe not.

Ask the selling shop why it had to go to the Uk and not a service place in Malaysia. Find out what date it went, ask them if they can track where the phone is, still Uk or on the way back, they must have some sort of system for phone returns so they know what is going on themselves. If they are not authorized Apple shops or agents then there is no point contacting Apple. If they are then maybe they can help.
