How do i recover itunes/apps purchased on to a replaced ipod with a different serial

I sent my ipod in for service for a cracked screen. Apple has replaced it with a new one, obviously with a different serial #. How do I sync this with my computer to recover my purchased apps/itunes. I did back up on my computer, however I have been unable to sync the new device. Help please/and Thank you!

- What happens hwen you syc/restore from backup the iPod obn the computer? You should be able to just restore from backup. However, not that the backup does not contain the apps themselves or music and some other stuff. Those items have to bei n your iTunes library during the restore from backup.

- If in the USA you can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

- You can always redownload apps at no additional cost as long as you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased them.
