dashboard quits unexpectedly

Hi there,

for the past week or so my dashboard keeps crashing every time I launch it. The first time it obviously deleted all the widgets I was using at the moment — nothing downloaded from the Internet, only basic Apple ones such as Stickies, Calculator and iCal — and now when I try to replace them it just crashes.

Any idea? I can post the error report if it can help.

thanks in advance,

I would try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.

You could have some directory corruption causing this issue. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.

After that Repair Permissions.

No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

HI Dale,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I don't have the install discs with me at the moment ... do you reckon I could try DU and RP without them? I have tried once before, btu with no luck ...

Also, I remember now seeing this suggested: installing 10.6.8 Combo Update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 but the problem now is that I have a veeeeeeeery slow internet connection and last time I tried to download it I desisted when I realised it'd take 24 hours ...! Do you think that could solve the problem though and it's worth downloading and installing?

ta,

dani
