My MacBook Pro has 4GB of RAM, but in Windows (I run Parallel desktop), the RAM is only 1 GB. Is it possible to assign more memory to Windows? Just like some of you, I am new to Mac, but I have certain application that unfortunately won't run in Mac. Thanks.

Open Parallels (not the VM) and select Configure from the Virtual Machine menu. Click on the General icon in the toolbar. There is a slider for setting the amount of memory to be assigned. For your system do not assign more than 2 GBs. Keep it under 2 GBs, preferably.
In Parallels configuration for any VM you can assign more RAM. However, you cannot do that while the VM is running.
