Cant verify Apple ID

I created a new Apple ID.

System requests that I check mail to verify

I check mail

Click on link that takes me to verification page

I enter info

I get:

"This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID."

If I try to manage apple ID it says I need to verify.

I click on send verification email.

I check mail

Click on link that takes me to verification page

I enter info

I get:

"This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID."

...and again and again...

ANY IDEAS?

Thanks!

General reply to those who still have issue with this. I tried fixing it for hours today, and this is my temporary solution until Apple gets their act together. You will need a new email address that you haven't used as Apple ID before.

- Go to Apple ID log in page.

- Click on "Manage your account"

- Click on "Edit" beside the email address

- Change it to the new address and save

- Check that mailbox and go through the verification process again. This time it should work if this email address has never been associated with an Apple account. At least it did for me.

You will have to use that new email address as your Apple ID for now. For me this isn't ideal because I want to use the original email address for iMessage. So I tried to change from the second email address to the first one, and had the same verification issue again! I could not change back to the second email address either, and had to use a THIRD new one to make it work again. It looks like Apple is not clearing out their database properly when you disassociate an email address... Nuts!

If changing back to a previously used email address works for you, I'd be interested to know. Good luck!

"Hi all,

I tried this and it worked:

1) Visit My Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/.

2) Click the Manage your account link on the right sideof the page.

3) Enter the account name (Apple ID) and the password you used when creating the account.

4) Change the email address associated with your account.

5) Send new verification email"

Ok, guys, until Apple corrects this issue, who has Apple ID with Gmail account can use a trick of Gmail.

Google do not check dots in e-mail account. It means that email@gmail.com is the same address that e.m.a.i.l@gmail.com, or any other combination.

So you can use this 'new' e-mail on the solution:

1) Visit My Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/.

2) Click the Manage your account link on the right sideof the page.

3) Enter the account name (Apple ID) and the password you used when creating the account.

4) Change the email address associated with your account. (only put or remove a dot from your Gmail e-mail)

5) Send new verification email

You will receive the e-mail on your regular gmail account, but remember that your Apple ID will be the new one with dots

I think I might have figured it out. This was happening to me for hours last night while setting up my mother's new iPad.

When creating a password for an Apple ID, the password rules say that you can't have 3 CONSECUTIVE or repeating numbers. However, if you do have 3 consecutive numbers, Apple does not reject the password. But then when you go to verify the account from the email link, you get the error: This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID.

It's a bogus error because it's a screwy situation that should be never happen. The password should have been rejected upon creation.

After I noticed this, I changed the password, no consecutive numbers, and it worked! Whew, only spent 4 hours of Thanksgiving family time on this.

I don't think it was to do with the password, because the password I used yesterday did not have 3 consecutive or repeating numbers. That said, I tried verifying again this morning and everything works! Even additional email addresses associated with the same Apple ID. Very weird that it just works, but I'm not complaining about that! Still, it should've worked the first time around anyway.
