Its very sad that such expensive phone cannot give standart capabilities. All other phones (i've seen) have. From oldest to newest. Samsung Galaxy have, for example 🙂.

The iPhone can, however if your network/carrier does not support this capability then you will not have the feature. NOTHING to do with Apple or the iPhone so speak to your carrier.

Where is this option mentioned in the iPhone? With my previous phones (same carrier) you had the option to request delivery receipt under the settings. In this phone (iPhone 4S ) there is only an option under "settings", "messages" and than there is an option to "send read receipts", not request read receipts. Or is this the same function?

My carrier doesn't support SMS delievery reports so I don't have that option and therefore can't tell you where it woud be on your iPhone, maybe someone who has that capability can answer that for you. At it currently stands, under Settings>Messages>Send Read Receipts the other party must enable that and decide whether they want others knowing exactly when they read the message.

To Huntress.

Sorry, but you've got to stop spouting this rubbish as if you are an expert. You are just confusing the issue.😕

The problem here is not whether you carrier supports delivery reports or not (I don't know of any in the UK that don't!!!), the problem is that the iPhone does not allow you to request them - Apple decided not to support them for reasons known only to themselves.

As other people have pointed out - the iPhone is one of the most expensive handsets on the market; to not have this basic function, that people have been using for years on pretty much any/every handset, is quite frankly ridiculous, pathetic, downright unforgivable!!!!

It's such a simple, basic piece of phone functionally that people don't expect it to be unavailable, they think they just haven't found it. Hence all the "how do I turn on Delivery Report..." questions.

So come on Apple sort this out. Give us a simple Delivery Reports ON/OFF function like every other handset out there.

Hissy.

PS. The Jailbreak app "iphonedelivery" doesn't appear to work on the 4s as the comm centre has been re-written. If anyone has got this working on a 4s, or knows of an alternative, please let us know.

Well then I suggest as alternative to being disrespectful to other users on this forum you submit your feedback directly to Apple via this link http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Under the Terms of Use it is prohibited from discussing/promoting jailbreaking on this Apple supported forum!!!

PS: A response is not required or indeed welcomed. 😎

Dear SenseiPhone,

we are not talking about prefix codes. We are talking about implementing the SMS delivery reports into the settings as a standard setting the way it is written for iMessages (saying "delivered" when the message is actually delivered). With prefix codes you basically just get a return sms from your mobile operator. Every other smart phone supports the SMS delivery feature without typing in any prefix codes.

Really you are misleading everyone

Im a telecom engineer who had 6 years of experience in Motorola and Nokia Siemens networks and have worked sms centers for operators worldwide. iphone is missing the functionality to request delivery reports. This has nothing to do with read receipts and operator support and the way you were misguiding people who raised the question and wanting the correct advise is really annoying.

Add to it day by day i realize the this phone and its designers have an "attitude" issue! So many common sense functionalites are not there, so many limitations and constraints as if they want to control how i use my phone.

Shame for this price to have so far: Poor email client, Poor photos application (can't even know when a photo was taken), Poor file transfer from pc, poor keyboard options, and for me i had initially hardware failure and had to replace my phone.

Blackberry, talking security, kept their phones limited and now they are on their way to exit the market.

Personally no other apple phone again for sure and not optimistic about its future either. compared to android this device is really annoying and the price is a cheat.
