Software Update iOS 5.0.1

Hi

Hope some one can help right here. I cannot download the latest Update for the iPhone which is ...iOS 5.0.1. from iTunes as it gets so far into the operation and then Times Out. That happens with all the iPhone updates which I have tried to download from iTunes. So, is there a SAFE SITE from which I can download the update. Thanks for all help and advice.

I was having the same problem trying to upgrade my iPad to 5.0.1.

It dowloaded the file all right, but produced an error while "processing".

I solved this by changing some setting in my Kaspersky security suite: giving more permissions to iTunes got rid of the processing error.

So my advice: check you're firewall settings for program-permissions regarding iTunes.

Hope that helps (i know about frustration when shjt does not work and support is hard to find :-) ,

Grtz,

Thomaaz.

There are multiple places to download the .ipsw. I got mine from redmondpie (I cannot link since this post will be removed if I do).

There is no real NEED to update to 5.0.1 as evidenced by this changelog: http://mac.softpedia.com/progChangelog/iPhone-Firmware-Changelog-38026.html. The only thing you are benefiting from is an exploit found in 5.0. which basically was a security flaw enabling the running unsigned code (malicious apps).

If you want to update to 5.0.1, be my guest. There just won't be anything different at the consumer level.

If you're having battery problems, try the following:

  • Turn off Bluetooth, Location Services, Wi-Fi when not in use. Using Wi-Fi when in low signal areas can increase battery life
  • Set All Fetch data to Manual (updating of Twitter, Mail, Facebook and other services if applicable)
  • Reset your phone by going into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
  • Download an iOS 5.0.1 .ipsw and force install in iTunes via a restore. Hold down Alt (for Windows users) while clicking restore to install the manual iOS file
  • Cycle your battery; let it deplete to 0% and shut itself off. Then charge overnight (6-8 hours).
