Once you have it , it is impossible to get rid of!
I have a gmail account as my sign in but I was also issued with a ME account. I would like to use that please. I have been through hoopws, spent a total of 10 hours over 2 weeks on apple support and still have problems with syncing. Plus I would like to chage the accounts over.
Has anybody achieved this? How do I get rid entirely and just sync on iTunes.

You cannot sign into iCloud or sync anything with10.6.4 - the minimum requirement is 10.7.2. You should be able to sync via iTunes as before, but if you have an iOS device I would assume you have to log out of iCloud first.
I have 10.7.2 - it seems impossible to get rid of icloud off my system, get my calendars back to being on my machine and dump iCloud. Just want to sync via itunes the way it used to - that all worked fine.
Firstly you need to move your iCloud calendars to 'On My Mac' - the process is described in the second set of numbered instructions here:

Then you can remove your iCloud login from System Preferences.
You should back up your calendars and, if you've been syncing them, your contacts (export the lot as a vCard) before proceeding.
