why are my text messages being delayed

I just started having this problem about a week ago. Text messages sent to me can be delayed anywhere from 1 to 18 hours. I'm using AT&T, however those sending me the texts also have AT&T and they are not having the same problem. It seems to be only my phone (an iPhone) that is experiencing this. And we all live in the same area as we are coworkers. Several of these messages relate to work so need to figure out what is wrong and then get it fixed.

If they are SMS messages (as opposed to iMessages) the the problem is with the carrier.

The phone has absolutely no control over when messages are sent, and displays them immediately when received.

However, if you're in a poor reception area, they may not be received and the carrier re-sends them and increasing intervals until the phone signals reception. The location where you spend most of your time may be the issue.

I have this problem to a more interesting degree. I did send and receive text messages on Friday, however, on Sunday when I turned on my LTE suddenly I got 12 messages which were all dated on Friday. What's up with that. Why did i receive some, but not others, and why did they show up because I turned on LTE?
