Q: 10.7.2 Lion Server on xServe won't mount Fibre Channel Raid

I have upgarded my xServe from SnowLeopard to Lion Server and my InfoTrend fibre channel raid won't mount anymore.

In the Fibre Channel PrefPane the FC link to the Raid is up, but in the System Overview i see the SCSI Target device but no volume.

If i boot back to Snow Leopard the Raid is recordnized normaly.

Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks,

Ben

I got an Email today from my Infortrend Reseller that there is a new firmware for my A12F-G2422 named "3.48H01" wich will make the Raid work with OS X Lion.

I will test this tomorrow and i will let you know.

Uggg... I created a support ticket with Infortrend last night. I got a reply and they said:

"The latest firmware is 3.8G.01. From our latest QVL list, your model A12F-G2422 currently only support Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6. We have not tested or qualify 10.7 yet. Let me know if you have any questions."

I've asked about the elusive "3.48H01" FW.

I'll test out "3.8G.01" FW tonight. I also need to get my A16F-G2430 working which has the same issue. I think it is possible that if you have only a SINGLE partition on your RAID it may work. I have two partitions assigned to the same Channel/PORT but each partiton assigned to different LUN's. I tried assigining each partition to it's own port and connect each port of the RAID to their own ports on the HBA... but this has not worked yet. I willl also try to copy off data and re-make RAID into a single drive and use only a single LUN. The way 10.7 is "seeing" and addressing LUN's has changed and the Infortrend is not liked by 10.7.

    Still working on it...

i have "3.8G.01" installed on my A12F-G2422 and it does not work.

I have a single partition on a single port.

OK... I asked about the 3.48H01 FW... and this what they said...

    "Ticket Subject:

OS X Lion 10.7 RAID will not mount

    Post Reply Content:

    Hi Jonathon,

Our Raid does not support OS X 10.7 yet. The new firmware to support OS X 10.7 is under development and the release day is still unknown. Continually upgrade to the latest firmware may let your system compatible to OS X 10.7 more."

So, it looks like they are actually working on a fix.

What should i say, i tried the new firmware "3.48H01". And it works. As it should be.

It mounts the Volume as expected, and everything is fine for me.

    Thanks Infortrend!

It's not in official release. I asked infortrend support about the 3.48H01 and they denied it existed and said Lion 10.7 compatible FW is "under development" at this time. I agree with what you said. I'm considering dumping all of my infortrend RAID's and switching to something else. I can't believe that they have a fix, but are not making it generally available.

    Hey Folks,

The support ticket I opened with Infortrend has been resolved for the A12F-G2422. The US support site had an error on the website and it should be available on the site now.

You may need to open a support ticket and mention that the FW 3.48H01 is not on the site, but that you know that it exists. I'm not sure if I can give it out personally to other users, but if it is legal I will.

Start here... you will need your s/n to start.

I asked my reseller if i could hand out the FW which they denied.

They have informed Infortrend that the FW is not on their website "http://iftsupport.infortrend.com".

So far on my A16F-G2430 the two configured LUNs have been stable.

I also got a reply from Apple re: the ticket I'd opened with them. They suggested the following:

This is most likely because the InfoTrend box is not configured in ALUA mode. Please check with the vendor if they have a firmware mode which supports the SCSI Specification for Asymmetric Logical Unit Access

I'm hoping (but not holding my breath) enough people with G2430's open tickets with InforTrend that they step back from the "it's EOL, sorry." stance I've gotten so far. Since, while I have a working array for the time being, I've no reassurance it's actually gonna stay that way with the current firmware not officially supporting Lion.

    Hey Sascha,

I've opened a ticket for my A08F-G2422 which has the same issue. I also have an A16F-G2430. So are you saying you were able to get the 2430 working under Lion on the old firmware? I tried assigning my logical drives to separate controller channels and ID's, but that didn't work.

If you have it working under Lion how did you set up the RAID? Please post parameters of RAID and logical drive setup. Even if I have to reformat it I will!

    thanks

    Jonathon
