iCal was working fine before upgrading to v. 5.0.1 on my iPad. All the events from my iCloud account have disappeared and I cannot find a way to add a new event. No "+" sign, tapping doesn't work. I've tried everything I can think of. Any suggestions?

No, this doesn't help. The calendar is turned on. I checked the settings in my iPhone 4s, which is working correctly and they are the same as the iPad. Also, I dont know if this matters or not but once the two calendars are opened, they look totally different. The iPad calendar does look like my calendar on my Mac Book Pro except no plus sign.

First, reset the iPad: "Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears."
If that is unsuccessful, use the "Restoring your iOS device" link in iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software.
I tried the Restoring your iOS device" last night, took FOREVER and it didn't help. Just tried the reset. Everything is still the same with the calendar. Does anyone even have an iPad that they have done the upgrade on and have a calendar that is working correctly? This is not an iPad 2 - just the original.

Mine works correctly. Lets see if we can find out what the difference is between our installations.
What calendars do you see when you select "Calendars" on the iPad calendar display?
There is not calendar tab on the one on my iPad. There is on the Mac Book but not on the iPad
Also, I notice you have an "Add Calendar" tab on yours and even on my MacBook Pro calendar there is not an "Add Calendar" tab. I do not have the "Invitation" tab either on the iPad or the MacBook

What do you see in your iPad>Settings>iCloud?
First the account name
then
Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Bookmarks, Notes, Photo Stream, Documents & Data, and Find My iPad are all "ON"

My settings there are:
New Invitation Alerts-ON
Sync-All Events
Time Zone Support-Off
Default Alert Times>
Default Calendar-Home
Mine has all of the above (like yours) except no Default Calendar-Home. There is nothing that says "Default Calendar" the Default Alert Times> if the last thing from there it goes to the next item "Reminders".

Go to iPad>Settings>iCloud, and turn Calendars "Off." Then after waiting a couple of minutes turn Calendars back "On."
You may also want to try using the solution posted by bodunrin in this thread: After update to iOS 5 my iPad-1 can't...: Apple Support Communities. You may also want to try some of the other suggestions listed in that thread.
OK, turned calendars off in iCloud. Checked the iCal and the Calendar tab was at the left top but there were not calendars listed. Went back to Setting>iCloud>and turned Calendars back on. Went back to iCal and the Calendar tab was gone??

Be sure to try this suggestion by bodunrin:
"i didn't have to switch my icloud on or off...but i had to restart the calendar app.
To do this, exit the calendar app, then double tap the menu button to bring up the task manager (it shows a list of open apps in a strip at the bottom of the screen).
Tap and hold the calendar icon till a "-" sign appears on the icon's top left.
tap the "-" sign to shut the app...then tap anywhere on the main screen to close the task manager.
after that simply restart the calendar app as usual and you should have your buttons in place.

Upgraded my iPad to v 5.0.1 and can find no way to add an event to iCal. There are no longer any " " signs and tapping on the calendar doesn't do anything except turn the page. Any suggestions? It worked fine before the upgrade.
