Since the automator 'Convert format of Word document' doesn't work and apple show no sign of wanting to fix this long standing (reported 2007 apparently and supposed to be fixed in 10.4.9) anybody have a solution for batch convertting .doc to pdf?
If you google "os x batch convert .doc to pdf" you can find a lot of hits on this topic so perhaps you can get some ideas from there.

Also, FWIW, doing the google search I stumbled upon something related to this I didn't know in that TextEdit can open .doc files!
True, and I'd already Googled and found these - problem is they're all irrelevant because the 'Convert format of Word document' doesn't work
Maybe a stupid question, but what about using Word and then Print selecting PDF output. Or is this a case of not having a copy of Word?
I have Word, but I have dozens of .docs to convert to pdfs.
thoufght there must be an easier way than doing file->print->save-as-pdf very time
