iTunes 10.5.1 Home Sharing not working (Windows 7 64 Bit)

Looks like this is being reported by a fair few people on the forums - so just wanted to add my voice. Since iTunes 10.5 (same in iTunes 10.5.1) on Windows 7 64 Bit home sharing has stopped working. I have all firewalls disabled on my Windows machine, have tried all the normal suggestions of signing out and back into home sharing on all devices etc. iTunes Windows library does not show to other devices on the network including iPad, iPhone and Apple TV (all running latest firmware as of 19/11/2011). Not looking for any responses here from the community, as the problem clearly lies with iTunes on Windows. Apple please fix!

In the meantime the only way I can use my Apple TV is to sync purchases down to the iPad and then Airplay them to the Apple TV. Very annoying. Maybe time to look for an alternative for movie and TV downloads as Apple TV is pointless without it being able to connect to my Windows iTunes library and downloads..

Not working for me either. Window 7 64-bit. Everything Apple is allowed through public and private Windows Firewall. I noticed that if I start the Bonjour service from the command line, then I start iTunes, it writes the following messages:

C:\Program Files\Bonjour>mDNSResponder.exe -server

I am having the same problem. I've checked the firewall settings. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, bonjour, quicktime, etc. I've reset my router. Still my iPhone and iPad communicate intermittently with my AppleTV. Syncing over wifi works occassionally. But my iTunes rarely recognizes my Apple TV and Home Sharing is only functioning on rare occassions. I get the same error when I open the Windows Log under Component Services. ERROR: mDNSPlatformReadTCP - recv: 10053

Something is not right and none of the solutions are working.

I followed the instructions in this post:

Even though my "Allowed Programs" already had iTunes listed, I added it again and my AppleTV has been able to play from my PC for the last 24 hours. I still can't push content from the PC to the aTV, I can only pull, but that's a decent work around until Apple solves the real issue.

I was having problems with the Home Sharing dropping out and a good friend suggested I look at the power saving settings. I have Windows 7 and a Netgear router on a HP PC operating with a dual Core i7 processor. I set all of the power saving settings to max (no power saving) and the Apple TV2 has been operating well all day with no drop outs. I have been able to listen to my entire music library, about 2 days worth of music, and look at one of my larger photo files, about 10,000 photos, with no problem. I figured that the router was not the problem as I was able to look at Netflix, NHL TV, etc. with no problem even while having the problems with the Home Sharing. It is amazing that Apple hasn't figured this out.

********Home Share not working - Possible Fix *******

I had this same problem. Worked with Apple Support for a week to no avail. We played with routers, we reloaded ITunes, we set pc ports, etc, etc, etc.

Then someone on this site said that he used a sniffer and saw that ITunes wireless Sync uses the same ports as Home Share and that wireless sync would lock up the ports and not give Home Share Access. He suggested turning off wireless sync on iTunes and the devices that connect to it, and "Bam" Home Share started working.

After weeks of not working, I turned off wireless sync and I've been using Home Share with Apple TV ever since.

Apple's got a problem that they refuse to admit and are ignoring tons of users with this problem. I hope this works for folks.

Solution did not work for me, trying to share my MacBook Pro's iTunes library (OS X 10.6.8, iTunes 10.5.2) over my work network with my Dell Optiplex 760 (Windows 7, 32 bit, iTunes 10.5.2.11). The Dell is connected via Gigabit Ethernet; the MacBook Pro by both ethernet and wifi. Home sharing had worked flawlessly for months prior to updating iTunes on both machines earlier this week; now, nothing.

I think it is important to note that there could be more than one issue here...

I mentioned earlier that I had the intermittent problems with Home Sharing dropping out while viewing content from my Windows 7 PC on my ATV2. The only resolution is to close iTunes and restart it, at which time Home Sharing reappears on the ATV2. Yet I seem to be able to Sync wirelessly and I can stream content from my iTunes via Airplay to my Apple TV or my Airport Express with no really issues or interuptions. I have checked the power settings on my PC and the NIC and PC in general is not using any power saving modes.

This is not the same as: "I can never connect to Home Sharing" or "My IOS device cannot sync Wirelessly", which I will concede could very well be a port/firewall setting as it is constent.

Just an observation and clarification.

I will be trying the possible workaround to turn off the Wireless Sync on our iPod Touch units in order to see if it is just a conflict between the two functions (Home Sharing & WIreless Sync). This could be a viable temporary solution as the isse really began with the introduction of the wireless sync feature.
