iTunes 10.5.1 Home Sharing not working (Windows 7 64 Bit)

Looks like this is being reported by a fair few people on the forums - so just wanted to add my voice. Since iTunes 10.5 (same in iTunes 10.5.1) on Windows 7 64 Bit home sharing has stopped working. I have all firewalls disabled on my Windows machine, have tried all the normal suggestions of signing out and back into home sharing on all devices etc. iTunes Windows library does not show to other devices on the network including iPad, iPhone and Apple TV (all running latest firmware as of 19/11/2011). Not looking for any responses here from the community, as the problem clearly lies with iTunes on Windows. Apple please fix!

In the meantime the only way I can use my Apple TV is to sync purchases down to the iPad and then Airplay them to the Apple TV. Very annoying. Maybe time to look for an alternative for movie and TV downloads as Apple TV is pointless without it being able to connect to my Windows iTunes library and downloads..

This worked for me.

Close iTunes and click START- in Search, type SERVICES and click on that and after list loads select 'Apple Mobile Device'. After todays update mine was turned OFF, should be ON. Select 'turn on' or as the bullentin says, "turn off then turn back on" if indicates it is already on.

Home sharing?? its a positively w__k experience. dont waste your time with home sharing, its just not worth the hassle.

Ive got a win7 pc, win xp pc, vista and an iphone, and I've spent nearly a full day, trying all sorts of combinations of settings, running pc's, restarting of pc's, itunes, routers, altering settings again, reinstalling bonjour and itunes mobile helper, getting a few brief moments of connectivity, but all doomed to failure after a few minutes at most. Apple really need to pull their finger out and come up with a fix for this, quick,, judging by the number of peeps having problems with it.

Ive resorted back to plan A, choosing and playing my music through windows explorer

And you know, at this point, I don't think apple will ever address it. I think customer service has gone the way of the dodo there. Had a call in about this to apple, guy said he'd call me back. Never did. Went to apple store, some kid tried to tell me 'oh you must have a corrupt music file'. WHAT!?!?! And given the high number of threads and posts, and the lack of reply by apple in way of a fix, I gotta believe Apple just doesn't care . . .

I too was having a problem with iTunes Home Share stopping shorty after starting when watching a movie on my Apple TV (wired), iPad, or iPhone. I am running Home Share from a Windows 7 64 Ultimate machine. I fixed it by turning off my Windows Firewall.

Open the Windows Firewall app and select the Windows Firewall Properties. I turned off the Firewall state for the Domain Profile, Private Profile, and Public Profile.

I'm not sure what firewall setting I need to change, but will post back when I figure it out.

I'm currently running the latest iTunes (10.5.3.3).

Hope this helps someone else.

Its frustrating reading the posts on homesharing. There are actually thousands of ATV2 users out there running iTunes on windows and Mac, that are having problems with homesharing. I have had my ATV2 about a year now, and as Steve siad its magical he was right. Then came iTunes 10,5. I have my ATV2 connected by ethernet, I have since tried WiFi to no avail. The problem is the server ( iTunes). This problem has existed for months now and Apple do nothing. Every now and then we get a post where somebody wrights this has worked for them, but they are kidding themselves, because the problem will return. I now use my Atv2 as a paperwieght, because I am tired of disabling and enabling home sharing in iTunes so it will sometimes work. I now use a software DNLA server (which I used prior to buying an Atv2) to stream my iTunes library to my TV.

This is soooo frustrating. I was going to buy a Mac to ensure seem else's integration in my home, but this is giving me second thoughts. For the second time this weekend, and for no apparent reason, as I wasn't messing around with it anymore, I suddenly had homeshare again last night. Now, this afternoon, ten minutes after checking it was still working, it's gone . . .

consolidate your libraty. on itunes go to edit, preferences, advance. iTune media location should be c:\User\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media

check: Copy files to iTunes Folder when adding to library

click ok

Go to file,library, organize Library...

check consolidate files and click ok

After itunes is done. unistall itunes and restart you computer

on your brower got to www.apple.com/iTunes

click on free download. (if you got windows 7 64 bit)scroll down and click on iTunes 64 bit installer.

then click download and run to install

all your media= musics, movies, and back up from devices will stay the same.

iTunes 10.5.3 - in Network and Sharing Center, turned off media streaming. Media content on external drives which I had to wake up. iTunes content then worked through home sharing to iPhone. Mine appeared to be a port issue between MS media steaming and Apple media streaming. Then problem returned. I can get content intermittently by closing apps and iTunes, restarting both. PITA

I too was very frustrated but last night I finally entered the correct settings for my router to use port forwarding and changed some settings on my computer and Apple TV with home sharing has been working flawlessly since. No home sharing drops. The Apple TV actually went to sleep and when I woke it, home sharing was still there. Follow the attached link to my post last night for what I did to get it to work. Your configuration may not be exactly the same but the concept is the same.
