Can't see anything Keynote, Numbers

I installed an old keynote and numbers 08 disc recently (not pages, I have the updated one and no problems)

when I open the program and any file/new template, everything is white. like i can't see anything without highlighting it and changing font color doesn't work. i cant even see the numbers gridlines. I have no idea what this is. help?
