Using an HD TV as a Monitor for my Powemac DP 2.3 (Nvidia 6600)

I can pick up some really sweet deals on HD TV's (1080P) - my Nvidia 6600 card in my Powermac has 256-meg, Dual DVI connectors, etc. I guess I'd have to find one that says PC too right (problem is they usually only have a VGA cconnector and not a DVI)? Is it possible to use the HDMI ports on the TV with some kind of adapter? Would a decent 1080P HDTV have as good an image as a dedicated Monitor? I'm VERY PICKY about my displays. I'm only asking cause a 30" MONITOR costs a whole lot more than a 30 or 32" HDTV. Anyone doing this and hows it look? It has to WOW me or I'll just do a 24" Monitor.

For a computer that old you will be lucky to find the adapters and it will probably look like utter crap because a PowerMac won't be pushing out the graphics for that type of display. That is if it even pushes out the digital DVI needed for an HDMI adapter to work. It might not.

I would say try it if you are nutty enough but make sure you can return the TV if it doesn't and you have no other use for it

I have a single G5 with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 64-meg DDR SDRAM and have it hooked to my 60 inch Sharp 1080p and it looks great to me! I have a DVI to HDMI adapter and that works just fine... only problem is it don't play video very well depending on if its SD or HD. But thats probably because its an OLD single G5 and was never intended to play HD video. But it works great as a home server!!

Thanks - I'm going to look into a 24" 1080P HDTV and an adapter (DVI>HDMI) - maybe larger if the price is good. I could always bring it back - Walmart has no restocking fees on electronics. Just wondering as if I could find a 30" or 32" it would be a **** of a lot cheaper than the 30" monitors I've looked at. Hows the text look? I figure a 24 or 30 would have a smaller dot pitch thus maybe a sharper image. I basically use my Mac for music recording, and web surfing too. I have a Windows 7 laptop I use for text (writing letters, etc) as I do it laying in bed (I'm 100% disabled, my wife is too, and we spend a good deal of our time these days laying in our bedroom).
