Home sharing missing content and messes thing up

I use iTunes Home Sharing on my network. I have a Mac Mini that has my iTunes Library. Home Sharing is turned on with my Apple ID. When I want to stream a movie or tv show to my iPad, a lot of them are missing in the home sharing menu in the Video App. Even movies and tv shows I purchases in iTunes store. Also a lot of artwork is messed up (wrong picture with wrong movie).

So it is buggy....I aready tried turning home sharing off and on again, but that didn't help.

I have this on my iPad and iPhone. On my Apple TV, however, all content is ordered as it should be. There it works perfect.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried quitting iTunes, restarting the Mac and then restart the iPad? This may reset everything.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Reboot the Mac and launch iTunes again.

I tried all that, thanks for the thoughts. I restart the mini every day and reboot my ipad at least once a month.

Sometimes I don't know if updating software makes things worse, but with cautious optimism I will also suggest updating iTunes to 10.5.1, if you have not already done so.

You may want to update the iDevices as well to 5.0.1.

Makes no difference.

Ever since the last update to iTunes, home sharing has been messed up.

I have not found a fix.

I was not aware of this issue. It seems to be working OK for me. Maybe I am just one of the lucky ones - or just haven't experienced anything yet.

I have reinstalled, erased the library and reindexed, etc.

It is still messed up-tv seasons repeated, not all content showing up.

Best guess-something in iTunes meta tags changed.

It is very annoying. I was able to stream music and video to my iPod1 until today. It stopped working. I have tried to do all of the ideas posted above. Nothing works. This ***. I should never have gone to IOS5.1 (sigh).

I already had it in iOS 4. iOS 5 just made it worse and tv shows dissapeared. The strange part is that I have no issues on my Apple TV2. And also strange is that tv shows I bought in iTunes do not show. So it cannot be a metadata issue, I guess.

Good to know I am not alone.

I have found a sollution that solved my problem. I found it somewhere else on this forum.

If homesharering is messing your tv shows up, you should add an episode ID to every episode in iTunes.

1 select episode

2 right mouse-> get info

3 select video tab

4 select episode ID; Just name them s1e1, s1e2 ....and so on.

I just tried it using my iPad (v1 IOS 5). Giving an episode ID did not work. (sigh)

Actually it might be.

I went through several of my tv show seasons, even those bought from iTunes, they were now marked as music under media type.

All my stuff was properly tagged before I updated iTunes to 10.5.

Considering I have 2771 tv episodes, across over 30 different shows-it's going to be a major pain in the arse to fix.

And that is one of the strange parts in this bug....if you give your non-iTunes TV shows an ID, your iTunes TV Shows will reapprear. That would bring your number down with a coulple of hundreds?

Paul, I use 'Subler' to add all other metadata to my TV Shows (non-iTunes). The more Data you add, the better they appear in HomeSharing (at least with me).

Thanks for posting this! I was having the same problem but my solution probably won't work for you. It turns out restrictions were set on the iPad that only allowed movies and tv shows of a PG rating or lower. I set the restrictions one notch higher at PG 13 and most all movies now show up in shared videos. I hope this helps!

No, It didn't. I also noticed that my music doesn't show up either. And, it's not an issue of restrictions, either (the next person posted that).
