Home sharing missing content and messes thing up

I use iTunes Home Sharing on my network. I have a Mac Mini that has my iTunes Library. Home Sharing is turned on with my Apple ID. When I want to stream a movie or tv show to my iPad, a lot of them are missing in the home sharing menu in the Video App. Even movies and tv shows I purchases in iTunes store. Also a lot of artwork is messed up (wrong picture with wrong movie).

So it is buggy....I aready tried turning home sharing off and on again, but that didn't help.

I have this on my iPad and iPhone. On my Apple TV, however, all content is ordered as it should be. There it works perfect.

Any thoughts?

So in trying to correct the issues of TV shows not having the correct artwork issues

I have removed ALL my TV shows.

I planned on adding them back one by one till the problem popped it's head....

Everything appears correctly except for there are now two TV shows that are not in my library at all?

I have tried rebooting ipad & computer

nothing seems to remove these 2 "ghost" shows.

Might anyone know how to fix this?

Also The error that appears on the ipad is

"The requested URL was not found on this server"

Hi all,

The issue I am having is that iTunes extras movies are showing up on the ipad/phone/Apple TV with Home Sharing. Looking at the meta data the only major difference that I can see with those movies which do appear (both itunes purchases and handbrake ripped DVD's) is that that the time is not entered under the options tab for the itunes extra movies. I cannot see how to enter any information in tthis field though as it is greyed out.

I would appreciate any assitance or directions to another thread if this has been answered before.

Thanks

Rob

Setup:

Macbook (2008 aluminium) running Lion

iPad 2 - IOS5.1

iPhone 4 - IOS 5.1

Apple TV 2nd gen

iTunes 10.6.1

My issues were similar to this, but slightly different. Basically it boiled down to all movies and tv shows needing to be correctly labeled in meta data, no deviation whatsoever from the method layers out earlier in this thread. It took me hours and hours to sort, but now it's all good. Frequent restarts of the iPad helped too as it allowed me to see that i was making progress as repairing metadata slowly made shows display correctly. Any duplicates in data or absent fields made all sorts of strange things happen - duplicates, missing shows etc, and mainly only an issue on the iPad. Episode ID seemed to be a big one in my case.

Awesome thread. Thanks for the help everyone.

My metadata clears out fine on the iPad just with changing password and rebooting the Videos app. The only time I've needed to do it is to fix Album Artwork in the Movies section. My iPad was forcing some to use a screenshot of the vid instead of their assigned artwork, but it's an easy fix.

Again, thanks everyone! I had a long day sorting my collection to make a much more presentable Home Sharing catalogue, and I think it looks really great.

fwiw: I am unable to get AppleScript to write to the track number field with either Guy's script or other AppleScripts that do succeed in writing to the disc number field. Did Apple change something to prevent writing to the track number field? I have discovered that at a minimum, just filling in the Artist field in the Info tab seems to solve most of my problems.

Been having the smae issue as all here, and this and other threads seem to have sorted it out. I added Sort Show and Sort Album to each TV show which, along with a Videos app reset seems to have sorted it out for TV shows

But I have the same trouble with Podcasts.

I've started investigating this but wondered if anyone who has sorted out TV Shows is also having podcast trouble

I am.

I sorted out the TV Shows but now I'm having the same problem with my podcast too, but only the one where the publisher had previously renamed the album artist.

I took the trouble to rename all episodes of the podcast prior to the name change, and now all of it shows under just one podcast in my itunes.

However, on the iPad on home sharing, the podcast appears twice. One with a screen shot of the last episode prior to name change and the other with the screen shot from the latest downloaded episode. Both have identical episode lists.

Does anyone know how is the meta data for podcasts organized differently from TV Shows?

I have this problem on my iPad 2 also, it happens I the music and videos apps, and have tried all of the common fixes such as rebooting, clearing caches on computer, resetting, etc. Everything seemed to be fine with the shared movies until I had more than ten in iTunes, and then the cover art was correct. I tried this with a new iTunes library in another account on my Mac, and sure enough, if I had under ten albums in iTunes, those cover arts were fine too. Hopefully apple fixes this soon.

My latest on this:

I had it working with iTunes 10.6 but only AFTER I went through all my multi-season tv shows and fixed the sort data etc as detailed in this thread.

But then today I saw a bunch of shows out of order again for seemingly no reason. Tried completely quitting the video app and iTunes on the Mac, no luck.

But signing out of the video app and back in put things back in place.

Thanks for that TX_Cody.

I experienced the same problem trying to stream TV shows to my iPad via Home Sharing. I found iTunes didn't download the SD version of the TV shows when I purchased the HD version, so I downloaded all the SD versions by unchecking the "Download HD When Available" checkbox under iTunes "Purchased" section. Now my iPad can stream all of the TV shows. My AppleTV was already able to stream all the HD versions normally. I do have a few home movies which have buggy artwork, but I think that is fixable by updating metadata, etc...

My issue is weird. It goes for both TV Shows and Movies. I have missing content on home share but only content that was purchased on Apple TV. (Using the same Apple ID of course) Everything purchased from Apple TV was backed up onto my macbook itunes 11 but it still will not show. I have tried the "disable home sharing retart everything cycle"... does not work. Check out my thread if anyone has any ideas. Could meta data be written differently when purchased via apple tv? To me it seems to be the same but this sounds like a similar issue as this thread so maybe one of you has an idea?

It is called iFlicks. I am in no way associated with the developer or the company.

I am just working very closely with the developer to address all of these issues!

So far.... with all of the beta testing ....it is working out perfectly!

The developer is working very hard on this.

That is why ask if anybody has any suggestions that I can pass along to him.

The current version of the app that you can find in the App Store does not address any of these issues

But the next version.... that is soon to be out .....will address all of these.
