how to find "read only" files
somehow i acquired a read only file which Time Machine apparently does not like: "files cant be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be "read only". How do find this file or files?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utilities folder, select your boot drive, First Aid and click Repair Permissions.
A long list ensues, just ignore it and try what you were trying again.

Normally read-only files can be copied without problems. The "it" in that message probably refers to the "backup disk" not "files", and might indicate a damaged TM disk. See this thread:
Thank you both.
the repair permissions process did not fix the problem. will try Utilities to "repair" the disk, which is only a few months old. Gforce 1TB.
this thread should be closed; i am not sure how to do that. if the problem persists i will restart it.
