After safe start stuck TUNTAPMGR_ERROR_TUN_DEVICE_OPEN_FAILED

I got the gray screen w/Multi languages saying I need to restart my Mac book pro (10.5).

I did the following items to try and fix it:

Removed the battery

Safe start (shift)

pram reset

Full view safe start (comm + Opt + V)

Now....After doing the full view safe start (comm + Opt + V @ startup), the process seems to be hung up/ stuck w/last line saying: return code: -32964598 (0xFE09000A) description: TUNTAPMGR_ERROR_TUN_DEVICE_OPEN_FAILED

What the heck can I do next to fix this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8), It's vintage Mac book pro -i.e. POS

Hmmm, what do you have installed that uses TubTap? What Virtual Interfaces are you using?

http://tuntaposx.sourceforge.net/

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

3. Click the First Aid tab.

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

BDAqua,

Tunatap is for work VPN. I recently disabled it's automated launch at start up... So maybe that is the culprit.

Any how... I'm going to try your instructions tonight (as soon as I find the Mac OS disk... Dang my desk is a mess.)

I also just tried manually selecting the start up disk target (the hard drive), and it went gray screen again! I hope the HHD isn't failing, too?!?!

Thanks for the help!
