If I delete a song, it asks if I want to delete if from the cloud.. But I have some mp3 files that went up to the cloud that I don't want there but that I would like to keep in my iTunes library on my iMac. Is it possible to this?
If I uncheck songs, would that prevent them from uploading to the Match Cloud?

Unchecking songs will have no effect on match status. Here's one way to do what you want but it's not very practical. Delete the song and click the box to remove it from the cloud as well. Turn off match. Then go to the trash and drag the deleted file back to the library. Keep in mind the next time you turn on match it will put you back in the same situation again. Match wants to look at everything in your library and treat all files the same way.
Easiest way is probably to have your library match authorized on a second computer but without files downloaded there, tell it to delete song from cloud and it will do it but the file will still be on your first computer.
You can also fake it with one computer by doing something similar with switching to a new (blank) iTunes library file temporarily.
Thanks to both of you for these answers. I'm reluctant to follow either of these procedures.
I have another idea and perhaps you can tell me whether it will work. I'm thinking I can label the mp3 files I don't want to go up as podcasts. I understand anything tagged as a podcast won't go up on iTunes Match. I'm wondering though, whether the Match cloud will notice any changes I make in iTunes on my iMac, given that it has already done the match process. Is there any way to force an update? Or is there an automatic updating process???

Switching to podcast or audiobook works if you do it before uploading. I'm not sure what it will do if you make that change after it's already uploaded.
Can I ask why there are some songs you do not want in the cloud?
Sure. The reason is that some are not songs at all. They are voice recordings of one sort or another. Including ones that were tagged as podcasts but that Match somehow uploaded anyway.
