Disable Spell Check

Hello,

I'd like to disable the spell check that is driving me crazy.

Is there a general preference panel where I can deactivate this option?

If not, should I use this code in the Terminal?

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAutomaticSpellingCorrectionEnabled -bool NO

Thank you?

that looks right to me.

or you can do it this way:

  1. Launch System Preferences, either by clicking the System Preferences icon in the Dock, or by selecting System Preferences from the Apple menu.

  2. Click the Language & Text preference pane.

  3. In the Language & Text preference pane, select the Text tab.

  4. To enable the automatic spelling check, place a check mark next to the Correct Spelling Automatically item.

  5. To disable the automatic spelling check, remove the check mark next to the Correct Spelling Automatically item.

I have this exact problem too. It's not about automatic 'correction' but about the underlining.

Basically, I use a lot of different languages and 'rare' words etc. in a document so that things get underlined (non of them mis-spelled).

It's confusing, distracting and just generally annoying that a company forces a - in this respect - stupid computer on me while I work.

As of now, I have to all the time go to Edit -> Spelling and Grammar to tell the respective program to be quiet. Underlining is automatically enabled again and again after coming back to an app. This costs a lot of time and nerve.

A Terminal command or the like would be appreciated.

(P.S. It is fine to spell-check a written document when I, as the user, invoke that feature).
