Right click on Magic Mouse not working

Hi

I am having this right click problem with my magic mouse. The right click function just suddenly stopped working two days ago.

I have checked the Mouse>Preference> Secondary click is enabled to "Right"

However, when I changed the secondary click to "Left", the "right click" function works perfectly fine w/ the left click, but when I change it back to "Right" nothing happens. I even tried unchecking the secondary click function (someone said that will work in another support site) but that doesn't help either.

I have tried removing batteries from my mouse, turning it off, turning bluetooth off, restarting the laptop...

Very confused right now. Please help!!

The post is a month old now, but I did stumble upon it after I suddenly lost my "Magic Mouse" right click functionality. Just as posted my; Mouse>Preference> Secondary click was enabled to "Right", though it would not work...

I tried everything including; restart iMac, enable and disable "Secondary Click", disconnecting the Mouse bluetooth and reconnecting it using my Magic Trackpad, etc.... until this ended up being my solution:

I went into System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and disabled "Secondary click". Then restarted the system. Then returned to System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and re-enabled Secondary Click. That worked and was my solution and has been working fine since yesterday.

I hope this helps anyone who encounters the same as we have.

I have the same problem since before the coming of Yosemity, almost 2 months now. I've tried everything and the problem remains (some times it was solver for a short period of time from a couple of minutes to a couple of days). But in the end it was always coming back. The only solution for me that worked even for a brief time was deleting the bluetooth.plist files but with no big luck. At some point i found out that another application was affecting this (Disk Doctor) which as soon as i uninstalled it the problem was fixed for a couple of days (the most time i 've managed) but in the end the problem came back and now nothing seems to work.

I just HATE these stupid and easy to be fixed problems, that noone does anything for them. Come on Apple! Your customers have a problem here.

Hi, This solved my issue too and should be posted as solution for this thread. I've just upgraded my MBP 2011 with an SSD drive and made a restore from time capsule, the entire OS (10.10.1) and apps worked fine except for the right click issue discussed in this thread. I tried PRAM reset, remove the battery of the mouse, re-pairing the the mouse, toggled the preference settings on and off nothing worked.

✅ I then deleted the com.apple.Bluetooh.plist files in ~Library/Preferences and after a reboot, my mouse was back with all the features and accuracy like on the first day.

For everyone else reading this thread make sure to backup the file before deleting, just in case. 😉

Thank you DougPod! 🙂

Like you folks, my magic mouse wasn't responding. Tried various suggestions over a 2 week period (changing/ checking batteries; rebooting Mac & mouse, etc). Uninstalled mouse via settings (and then couldn't get it back!). Unable to detect it - even after I'd flicked Bluetooth on and off.

Finally though a variation on DougPod's trick worked. I moved the only Bluetooth File I could find to desktop (com.apple.BluetoothAudio.plist) and rebooted. Mouse found straightaway - Brill! Thanks Doug.

The only weird thing was that the plist file wasn't reinstated. I manually restored it from desktop - just in case.

THANKY YOU!

I realize this is four years old now, but you just saved me the cost of a new mouse. Well, that and trying another Magic Mouse from another machine on my iMac and finding it had the same problem. I thought the right click button had suddenly given out and was about to buy a new mouse until I tried that, then went googling and found your answer. Turning off "secondary click" and rebooting and turning it back on fixed it.

I have a similar problem:

Usining only my MacBookAir, the trackpad is working just fine - ie tap to click.

When I dock it in my office to the Thunderbolt display including bluetooth - keyboard, mouse and trackpad, everything imedeately goes bananas. Different symptoms, but always tap to click stop to work on all units (both trackpads and the mouse). Uncontrolled grey marking / highlightning of text when the cursor is moved on the screen - is another symptom.

I have tried just about everything, but jet found any solution. I even went and bought a brand new mouse. For a while I thaught it had something to do with the display, but it turns out the same thing happens when I connect the mouse to the MacAir alone also. It just takes a good bit longer time before the problem starts.

After upgrading to ElCaptain, everything was working well for a good while, but now the problem is back again - UGH.

This is just such a frustrating problem, and it has been stealing way to much of my scarce office time the last few moths.

I will try DougPods solotion next time I am in the office - and pray to all known and unknown gods simultaneously.

Hopefully that will solve it. If not - I don´t know what to do.

My right click function works for about 10% the times that I right click. When it fails to work, I click it again. Usually fails again. Eventually, one of my attempts is rewarded with it working normally. But, the next time I right click, it usually fails. When it works it's almost always after I have moved my finger very, very close to the bottom edge of that right portion of the mouse. But, even then, it only works a fraction of the time. My iMac is about 7 weeks "young". One more thing.....my mighty mouse is CORDED - ie, it is not wireless/bluetooth.
