Is anybody having problems opening Jpegs attachments on iPhone 4s sent in email?..imap , mac, and exchange accounts are affected. I get a spinning wheel or it bombs out!!..Help

Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Mail>Load Remote Images...is this On?

Delete all the mail accounts on your phone. Add just your IMAP account...see if things work now, if they do, add back your Mac account, and so on...

Are you on 3G or WiFi?

When you get these attachments, are the senders using Rich Text Format or Plain Text for the email? If RTF, can you ask one be sent using plain text...see what happens. Oulook default's to RTF, so the sender will have to manually change this.

I'm having the same problem myself only I'm on a 4 not a 4s. The problem seemed to start when I upgraded to OS5. Jpeg attachments in my email that I hav never had problems opening before won't open now. I get the spinning wheel like it's trying to download then it kind of blinks and stops. I tried deleting all my email accounts and adding them back but no luck. There doesn't seem to be a problem with any other file type.

I agree with you. I own the iPhone 4S and the problem seem to have started with iOS 5.

Some mails allow me to open attachments, some don't. I have problems with image and movie files. I cannot tell if it is related to the size of the files or not. Apparently not as I even a small image (screenshot) doesnt load. Taping the attachment shows the spinning wheel again, but doesn't open. Retarting mail, restarting the iPhone, reinstalling the iPhone, etc doesn't help at all. Being on Wifi or 3G doesnt make a difference. Apple!! Please help!

Solution for me was changing the "Load Remote Images" setting, shutting down and restarting the phone. The old messages with problems reloaded with all attachments accessible.

Background: I began having this problem recently with PDF, jpeg,vcf files and apparently now, all attachments as well as email with html links are coming through with no attachment or as empty email. This was a new problem for me. I have been backing up to the cloud, but not using a cloud email account. I have multiple accounts on the phone, six of them actually and have been set up this way for over a year without problem. Some are imap, some pop, none are through exchange.

i have the same problem - a few days ago mail stopped opening attachments (iphone 4, ios5.1.1) - i mean every attachment: jpg,pdf,....which i have opened before succesfully!

btw i am using gmail IMAP

seems like a bug which does not affect all users, closing mail, restarting, resetting does not help!! grrrr

the only workaround which i have found so far is to forward the message to myself - and attachments open without problems

I've been having problems downloading any attachements (any type, any size) using Gmail, but only from emails sent to myself. No solution yet...

update: suddenly (since two weeks or so) attachments open again without problems.

have no clue why it stopped working and started working again.

the only thing i remember when i the problem with opening attachments started:

an illegal file name of an attachment with e.g ,;:/ which i could not open on the iphone, and saving to a computer only after renaming to a proper filename. after that i could not open any attachment for days.

but was maybe only a coincidence.
