iOS competition with laptops

Is it legal for a company to disable features on iOS which are available for other platforms such as on pcs or macs? this is primarily related to HDMI out for iPad apps specifically the SkyGo app in the UK. ( HBO Go similar issue in the US?)

I have been frustrated and feel that surely this is impinging apples products in an unlegal way. A company such as sky is unfairly disadvantaging the apple iPad when compared with the same sky go application on windows laptops.

Yes, it is legal. I'm not sure why you would think that Apple has a legal obligation to make the features on an iPad match the features on a computer. That's like saying that Cannondale's bicycle's have to have the same features as a Ford car. Yes, they're both transportation devices but they fill different niches.

If the device doesn't meet your needs, you should purchase one that does.

You would certainly need to be less ambiguous in your explanation of what is occurring, but SkyGo, the media vender/supplier is free to make its product available on different platforms as it sees fit, regardless of what it makes available on other platforms. SkyGo is not legally required to make an app for the iPad offer the same services as an app it makes for a full fledged computer, regardless of the iPad's potential capabilities. They are the content provider, it is their product to offer freely to the public or constrain as they wish and see fit for their business model.
