iphone 4: Why doesn't the camera appear next to "slide to unlock" bar after updating to 5.0.1 as it did in 5.0

Don't know of any problem with this. Are you sure you double tap the home button. It only works to double tap.

    Have you tried a Reset...

Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release the buttons...

Thank you, I feel rather foolish for fogetting that.  I am a relatively new user.

Your welcome. Don't feel bad, there's a lot to learn and try to remember

Thank you for asking that question - I've been trying to figure this out for a while now.  I finally caved and brought my phone into the Apple store this afternoon and no one there could figure out why I didn't have the camera icon on the lock screen either.  I was told to reset my phone to the original settings, then load from the back up and that should do it - nope.  Yet no one told me, or even knew?, that you had to double tap the button.  Why don't they say that anywhere, all the advertisements on TV, and video on the website never says or shows that.

And what's the point of the 'quick access' to the camera button from the lock screen if you have to remember to double tap the home button??  You'd think at this point they would have had that figured out - unless double tapping the home button had been used for other things in the past that I just didn't know about?  Very frustrating past couple of weeks trying to figure this out, and all over a little camera icon!  Thanks for letting us know how to access it, I honestly wouldn't have figured it out - and clearly the staff at the store didn't have a clue either!

Wow, now you have me wondering how I knew

I don't think I read it or saw it anywhere. But, I'm used to double tapping the button to get visual access to the play,back/forward arrows and volume slider for iPod, thus now the camera icon appears as well.

I'm actually just now retraining myself to always use this feature when I want to take a picture. Many times I still push, slide, enter code, press home, tap camera icon. Yeiks.

Interesting, I didn't know anything about the double tap feature and I got it when the 4's just came out.  I know a lot is playing around, and hearing what other people have found, but that would have been a good one to know about for the music part.  Like you I had the push, slide, (no enter code though), home, and search for my music app, ugh!  This will take some getting used to now, but love the 'ease' of snapping a photo on the fly - once I get used to the double tap thing!

Thank you thank you so much for the info, I called my Mom right away and told her how to get to it too, yay!!
