Is it possible to permanently block someone from calling? Suppose I want someone in particular to not be able to reach me, and to have my iPhone not even ring when that person calls. In other words, is it possible to have the iPhone make that person not even exist?

Yes, you can but you cannot directly do it from your phone, you need to contact iphone's service provider to activate that service. This is not free...depends on where you're from but maybe like $10.

The iPhone doesn't have provisions for call blocking. Contact your celluar provider to see if the provide call blocking. You could also create and assign the unwanted caller a silent ringtone.
Thanks, folks. I just discovered that I can block up to 5 callers on Verizon's web site, and it's free.
I appreciate the suggestion about the silent ringtone, but wouldn't that allow the unwanted caller to leave a voice mail?

Yes, they could still leave a VM. However, with Visual VM, you can delete without listening fairly easily. But, it's really just a kludge. Blocking through the carrier is much more effective.
