if the link doesn't work, go to the support page, then on the middle left, under the self-service heading, there's a link to the option to plug in your serial number (you can find that under 'settings, general, about' and you'll see your serial number
Keep your receipt, that's all you need to prove when the iPad was purchased. The warranty lasts for one year after that, with no need for a card of any kind. I believe Apple may also have records if you lose the receipt, though I'm not positive. Also, if you bought an AppleCare warranty, you just activate it and then Apple knows when it ends. Again, no need for any kind of warranty card.
You don't need the receipt. The warranty is tied to the device and Apple keeps the records from when it was first activated.
The receipt proves the purchase date if there were ever a problem with the records. It's a good idea to keep it.
