I'm on 10.6.8 and my app store icon is grayed out on the dock (believe someone was accidentally trying to delete it.) Is there a software update that I can reinstall that will restore the app store app?

Did you use the 10.6.8 combo update V1.1? And after repairing permissions and running Software Update, while I didn't mention it in the steps, have you rebooted your system since the update ... I'm thinking that you must have as part of the install process. I'm scratching my head on this one, as a reinstall should take care of it.
Install the OS X 10.6.8 combo update from the Apple download site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/ . The combo update will have all updates for 10.6, including the app store access in 10.6.6. Repair permissions before installing the combo update, install the update, then repair permissions again. When done, run Software Update in case there's anything else requiring an update.

😟 ...well, thanks a lot for the tip. I did run permission repair, installed the combo update and then re-ran permission repair. Unfortunately, it still has a circle with slash running through it. I really thought your idea of installing the update that had the app store in it would fix it. FYI-when I click on it, I get this message: "You can't open the application App Store because it may be damaged or incomplete."
If you have any other ideas, I would appreciate it...
BGreg, I just wanted to get back to you to say Thanks. I did work but I was validating it by seeing if my gray App Store icon would change-it didn't, so I thoutht it didn't work. I was perusing my Apps in Finder and lo and behold, there it was.

Using the application Pacifist you are able to explore the contents of pkg files. 1.On the main window of Pacifist Select Open Pakage and use the latest Combo Update 2.Go in Contents of EssentialSystemSoftware/Contents of EssentialSystemsSoftwareGroup/Contents of Essentials/Applications and you will see a list of stock apps 3.Select the .app file and press Extract To the Applications folder Hope that helps |
Thanks a lot. I had ths problem for a long time and this comment helped me a lot. Reinstalled the combo update in the past but the App Store was damaged or incomplete… Picking it up with Pacifist was fine!
