No, it's professional level software you'll have to get from Adobe, I'd advise getting disks so you have a pernament copy.

Because Apple charges a 30% fee on programs sold on the AppStore.

I'm sure you wouldn't want to pay 30% more for Illustrator.

Also Steve Jobs made a big public stink over Flash.

These reasons aren't quite correct. Sure, Apple takes 30%, but that never stopped anyone. If you have ever sold a retail product, the middlemen (distributors etc.) traditionally take 50% from your retail price. Standard retail markup. That doesn't stop Apple or Adobe from selling through Amazon and other retailers. Yes, Apple and Adobe make more money if they sell direct, but the 30% isn't the biggest cut they've ever seen. Heck, compared to retailers, 30% could be seen as a good deal, and I think I've read developers say so.

The reason some companies don't sell through the Apple Store is purely logistical. The code is probably not ready for the App Store's requirements and restrictions. This is proved two ways. One, Adobe already sells several apps through the App Store, so they don't have any problem with the concept. Two, Apple doesn't even sell all of its apps through the App Store...Why did it take so long for Final Cut to appear, and where's Logic Pro? Old codebases, probably. Final Cut got its rewrite, and now it's in.

But Apple Logic Pro is still missing. Clearly there is no petty ideological/political rift between Apple and Apple...

If you're new to the Mac, you should know that most Mac software is not sold through the App Store. The App Store is relatively new (it was modeled after the one on the iPhone, which is only a few years old), and as I mentioned earlier, if you write a program that you want to sell on the App Store, you must obey various restrictions on what the app can do. Not all apps are able or willing to do that right now.

That is why Illustrator, Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Parallels Desktop, Apple Logic Pro, and many others are not yet in the App Store. But you can buy them at Amazon and other stores, and I've gotten a large amount of very affordable and useful software through sites like macupdate.com.
