Itunes wants to restore my iphone 4

Hi,

Itunes will only give me the option to "setup as a new iphone" or "Restore from backup" when i connect my iphone 4 to itunes. It won't allow me to chose options or sync.

It does not do this with my ipad 2, only with the iphone 4.

So i tried to restore my iphone from an icloud backup - many hours later all was restored and i connected it to itunes (specifically to turn on wifi sync) but alas the same "setup as new iphone or Restore from backup" screen appears. What can be done - i refuse to restore my iphone again as it appears there is something wrong with itunes not iphone.

Help PLEASE!

Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Ben

(By the way, im running itunes on windows vista :*( - But not for much longer - Here i come macbook pro!)

If you already have a backup of your iPhone on your computer then you can proceed to "Restore from Backup". Please remember that backups can be restored only when the iOS versions are same across the device and the backup, i.e. if the device is running iOS 11 then the backup must also must have been created with iOS 11.

If not then you have to proceed to "Setup as a new phone". Moreover if it has been purchased recently then setting up as a new phone is the only option you have.

I have exactly the same thing. Updated to 5.01 and the update jammed so had to restore the phone. Had to re-load all my apps one by one via 3G as when I connect to itunes it just wants restore from an older update.

Now it wont sync so Outlook Diary doesnt sync which I use all the time.

I have 'reset all settings' on the phone but still wont sync

Ever since IOS 5 the phone has been a nightmare. Not very useful in its current state.

Any advice on getting it sync would be really appreaciated.

Thanks

Samething happened to me after I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.0.1, iTunes wanted to restore it. I ignored the problem for weeks since iTunes did not have a recent backup and I did not want to wipe it clean to see if I had a more recent backup on iCloud.

I did not want to lose my data but selected "setup as a new iPhone" anyway. The next screen that came up had me rename the device, I named it exactly what it was already named. From there to my surprise it synced and was acting normal. It must have been some kind of glitch as it did not re-setup anything. It's been working great again!
