For some reason when I get on itunes on my computer with my ipod plugged in, my ipod and itunes say syncing but if I let it sync it freezes up and if I cancle the sync it still freezes up. Why is this

For some reason when I have my ipod plugged in on itunes, both say they are syncing something but if I let it sync it freezes up and if I cancle the sync it freezes up. Why is that?
