Macbook reset factory settings after restart?

I'm new to the world of Macs and recently got my first Mac, a 2007 Macbook Pro with OS X 10.4 Tiger. I had it for a few weeks and this morning I shut it down before school. When I got home and booted up everything was reset to factory settings. All of my saved pictures and my entire iTunes library were gone. Does anyone have any clue as to why this happened and possibly have a way to get everything back?

Also, I should be getting Snow Leopard in the mail any day. Do you think I will have that problem with Snow Leopard as well? Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hello & a warm welcome to the forums & Macdom! 🙂

I think what happened is your home folder got renamed before shutdown, likely all your stuff is still there.

Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory, (it can happen spontaneously too)...

ChangeShortName 10.4 only...

You should be OK if it meets these requirements...

Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...

General requirements

* Mac computer with an Intel processor

* 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)

* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

* DVD drive for installation

* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
