Can not connect iphone 4 to itunes or reset settings

i have recently purchased a supposedly new iphone 4 from ebay, i have tried 3 sim cards, only the virgin one is accepted with bars but there is no edge, gprs connection so i cant make or receive phone calls.

I am unable to reset settings as it asks me for a password which i dont know

I am unable to connect to itunes, i have tried everying from reinstalling and followed apples advice, but itunes just will not recognise it

So i cant make calls, cant't connect to itunes, cant't reset to factory settings. Will not connect to wifi

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what happens when buying from eBay. The person didn't restore befire selling, which they were supposed to. Now, what exactly happens when you plug in to iTunes?

What do you mean by "IT" above? iTunes? Where do you see a reference to "MASS STORAGE DEVICE"? The iPhone is not capable of acting as a mass storage device in the same way some android phones can (like a thumb drive). It sounds like you don't even have an iPhone.

That is NOT an iPhone. Either that or it has been jailbroken, which makes it unsupportable.

The item was described as new, unlocked and never used, the phone itself looks brand new. The problem is when i connect the usb it is not recognised as an iphone. When i try updating to correct driver usbaapl.inf it says "the specified location does not contain any information about your hardware”

Is there any way i can reset to factory settings?

Is this thing functional at all? Go into Settings>General>About (assuming it exists).

What is listed under Version, Carrier, Model and Modem Firmware.

What was the condition of it when you took it out of the box? What was the first thing it did when you turned it on?

If it's coming up with a "USB Config" menu, though, my money is on "It's a fake".

You don't have an iPhone. You have an iPhoney. A cheap Chinese knockoff that looks almost exactly like an iPhone.

File a claim with e-bay and pay pal and get your money back.

It's rather hard if you can't get in to iTunes.
You could try (assuming you have Settings). Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings. Best of luck. If this doesn't work or you don't have these menus, I would agree with KiltedTim, it's a fake.
