No sound coming from my iPhone 4s.

I just recently got an iPhone 4s. I am getting no sounds coming from it though. The ringer works, but all other sound is off unless the headphones are plugged in. This goes for recorded movies, music I purchased, youtube videos, the sound effects when I slide the login button. Everything is silent. I have restarted it a few times now, but to no avail. Even the sound buttons on the side do nothing; now they don't even bring up the sound volume overlay.

Any idea what might be wrong?

Thanks!

I've just had a similiar problem with my 2 year old iphone 4, the sound was ok if someone called me but all the sounds and music was completely silent. The first thing I noticed when something was wrong when i was typing some of the clicks wasn't working. The volume button also wasn't working, I think what had happened it had been raining very hard and some rain water had got inside the ports - I just used a compressed airline to gently blow on the speaker and headphone socket and all the sounds have come back🙂

My iPhone 4S has been doing this for a few days now. Rings no problem, speakerphone no problem, earphones no problem, but no sound when using iPod function or watching YouTube or Facebook videos. I don't own an iPod Dock, but did manage to get an AV cable to connect phone to tv using charging connector part of phone. Connect to tv, press play on YouTube and it will play through tv, pull cable out and then press play again on YouTube (it automatically pauses when you disconnect it) and it now works through phone. Unfortunately for mine, it only seems to work for about 5 mins, but it does prove that the problem is related to the charging/docking connection. Blowing it with compressed air has not worked for me.

I have previously had the other problem that the phone thought the headphones were still connected- I got a slightly longer headphone jack and put it in and out a few times, which worked.

Yep same problem. Was definitely a docking issue for me. I took a deep breath, blew into the connector at the bottom of my phone, and now all is fixed! Volume buttons and sound are working again. If that doesn't work, try cleaning out the inside of your phone's connector with a pin or dry toothbrush. But focus on the connector.

Thanks so much, Twofeet123. Using the Assistive Touch function also fixed my iPhone 4 running iOS 7.0.3. All of the other methods (tooth brush/blowing on the dock connector, swabbing the headphone port, rapidly inserting/removing stereo mini phones) did not work to redirect my phone sound back to the handset from 'headphones' mode. You saved the day. 🙂

I phone 4s 7.0.3. No sound from apps or I player. BUT have sound via headphones. Didn't used to, not I do. Alarm goes, texts and ringer rings. When I load a new app, it works, with sound for the first time but not subsequently. Tried the headphone jack in and out, tried hair dryer in ports, tried assistive touch, connectors changed. Docked and undocked. Tried all suggestions bar jail breaking and deleting file.
