No sound coming from my iPhone 4s.

I just recently got an iPhone 4s. I am getting no sounds coming from it though. The ringer works, but all other sound is off unless the headphones are plugged in. This goes for recorded movies, music I purchased, youtube videos, the sound effects when I slide the login button. Everything is silent. I have restarted it a few times now, but to no avail. Even the sound buttons on the side do nothing; now they don't even bring up the sound volume overlay.

Any idea what might be wrong?

Thanks!

I should add another odd wrinkle. Siri works fine. When I bring it up, the volume buttons on the side adjust the volume of her voice, but after I close the program, it all goes back to silent.

Also, I don't have the mute button on, just to get that out the way now. :-)

About half an hour ago, I just realized that my iPhone4 has no sound except the ring tone. After trying every thing I did what btwoodward suggested. I took my can of air and cleaned both the headphone jack and power dock.

And it worked.

So there is no software or hardware issue. It’s just a dust clogging the connectors in some way issue. I can blame my two year old for that.

Hey Szayat, I had the same problem too. A few months ago the sound on my phone would go for about 20 minutes and it would come back on after that. then, it just suddenly stopped, so I thought nothing else of it. But last night I was on my phone and I wanted to watch a video on Facebook and there was no sound what so ever. So I rebooted my phone , turned it on and off, changed all my settings and it still wouldn't work. And the same problem as before , it came back on after about 20-30 minutes. I noticed there was a problem when I couldn't hear the clicking sound when you type in you're password and when you're writing. So I got a hair clip ( because it was the sharpest thing that would fit in the charger hole that I had) and I cleaned out the charger hole, and so much dust and dirt came out of it, it was unbelievable! I also blew into the charger hole to get out the rest of the dust. But after that it still didn't work so I rebooted it ( by holding the lock button and the home button at the same time) and played around with the mute button on the side of my IPhone 4s , Then immediately it worked and I have had no other problem since. I hope this works for you guys but if not I suppose you should look into taking it to a professional. :)

I had the same issue. I tried most of the suggestions listed here, including cleaning out the connector port. Nothing worked. I was considering disassembling the entire device and replacing the connector, but I decided to try cleaning it one more time. I used Isopropyl Alcohol this time. I did a thorough cleaning of the connector port and the audio jack port. Problem solved!

Getting a small enough implement into the connector port was a challenge. In the end, I halved the cotton on a quetip, pulled the top out some and stuffed the lose end into the port. Then I used a tack and cardstock (business card thickness) cut small to work the Alcohol through.

I just wanted to update everyone that cleaning works.

I have an iPhone 4. I tried cleaning the charging port and, although I got a lot of lint out of there, it didn't help. I tried the freezar for 5 minutes, etc, etc, etc. I called ATT and the guy was nice but treated me like an idiot. After a while, and trying some things, he said that maybe I should go to an ATT store. The only thing that worked was to put a small reward points card, the small one that goes in your keychain, inside the charging port, the bottom part of the pins at the bottom of the phone). I push it in, mostly on the right side, and then up. I saw the volume bar right away. I tried several times, until it worked for good. It's been two days and it still works. i added the card to my keychain again just in case.

No sound coming from my iPhone 4s.
