No sound coming from my iPhone 4s.

My wifes phone started doing the same thing,but nothing here worked. This is the this time I've had a problem that dozens of people have, in an apple support forum, yet when I call AppleCare, they've never heard of it.

Hey guys don't send your phones anywhere! I had this problem this morning and I read something about it being in dock mode so i blew really hard into the bottom of the phone where the port is and instantly I got my sound back. If this doesn't work try compressed air!

I have tried blowing the socket out with air to no avail. The first time it did this after cleaning out the headphone jack it worked.

The only way I can get it to work now is(not responsible for damage) throw it on the carpeted floor and "presto" it starts working again.

My guess is that over time there gets so much pocket lint in the jack it fails to disconnect after unplugging the headphones.My phone is an original 4 that has been thru several wars now.

I woke up this morning with the same problem ... i cleaned the headphone port and charging port out with a ear cleaner bud but that didnt work ... i them blew into the head phone port and charging port ... it seemed to have cleared something as it now works again and i have my volume bar back

Had same problem today... Fixed it by going to settings under sounds and toggling off and on the lock sounds option at the bottom. after this it was like tones magic to my ears!

Hey, my phone just experience the same problems so I blew in it but it didn't work so I got a bobby pin and pushed the bottom between the battery chanrging outlet. Thinking I was "Pushing the dust around and away" and then I checked again and the volume bar was back. Hope that helps.

I had the exact same problem as you, the speaker worked with Siri, ringtone, but with everything else it was mute. Another weird thing was that if I unlocked the phone after a time without using it (about 3min) the unlock sound worked for one time and then it was the same problem again, and with the headphones everything worked perfectly.

I tried to clean the doc-connector and now when I have the charger connected and wiggle it a little bit the speaker works again as it should, so the problem is obviously the doc-connector. I just have to clean it better to get it work 100% again.

TL;DR

Speaker didn't work except for Siri and ringtone works with headphones as it should. Problem for me was that the doc-connector was dirty.

Found a solution that worked for me.

Go to Settings > Sounds

Under Ringers and Alerts turn off the Change with Buttons. When that switch is on, the only thing that your volume contrals will change is your ring tone volumes. When it is off you can change your volumes for your apps. Somehow my volume for apps had been turned down all the way.

Same with me on two phones. My old 3GS did this, and my 4G on iOS6 is doing it also. Tried cleaning, resetting and all the tricks above. Guess since I see so many of you are having the same issue, I think I'll just go buy the iPhone 5 tomorrow.

Hey i was too facing the same problem but finally got the permanent solution.

The problem is with the white pin of the dock, the pin has just got little pressed in so do one thing get a thin scale or a pin and press the dock pin from below to the upward side. The volume button will come. This helped me. Hope it also works for you too.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions...I have the Iphone4 (not S), and recently stopped having keyboard clicks and couldn't see the sound level with the side buttons...tried everything, except blowing into the dock connector port! That did it! Thanks for the good advice...You rock!
