Hello. Same thing happened to me this morning (iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0.1), no sound except for the ringer. I tried hard-reset, restore from backup, factory restore, touch assistant... The thing that did it for me was plugging my iPhone to my Yamaha receiver usb docking port, played a song on the receiver and then unplug the iPhone. Hope it lasts. Good luck all!

I Thought I had the same problem. I found myself blowing air in every angle and making settings changes which changed nothing. Then like a fool I realised my kids played with it and moved the little switch above the volume. Moving it to silent. All I had to do was flick it back. Maybe someone else might be having the same delimma. Needless to say, my case is solved.

I replaced my dock connector, using a non-apple charging cable is what I believe messed it up. It fixed my sound issues and others I was having. New dock connector $11.99... no more problems

i have found a solution . I had the same problem no sound and the volume slideshow did not appear only until you plug in your earphones . Open a song play it. Plug in your earphones and then when the volume slideshow appears hold it with your finger  and unplug your headphone. Here you go problem solved . Ps make sure you hold the volume slide.

Hi all, I myself started to have a problem with the sound on my iphone 4g. It started yesterday and after doing the obvious, ie check settings and updates and forums etc and getting no where I decided to look at the connections. It started after I dropped phone in snow and plugged into a supported device which all went ok until I disconnected. The ringer worked but I lost all sound from my apps and when I played music. The volume control on the side of phone was also not working???? So after a scratch of the head I took a look at the connection at base of the phone and found that a little area about halfway along had a small build up of oxide (pale green residue) on the connection. To clean and clear away the oxide, I sprayed WD-40 on and around the device I originally plugged the phone into, wiping off any excess and reconnected my phone. I then disconnected and re-connected a couple of times which has cleared the oxide residue and it seems to have sorted the problem out. Please be aware if you do try this method of cleaning then don't use too much WD-40 and dont spray directly onto the connection at the bottom of phone. Hope this will be of help.. All the best

I had this just happen me after the panic I realized there was a bit of fluff in the iPhone connector bit and it was tricking the phone into thinking it was plugged into a dock. Removed it carefully with a pin head and it was fixed.

The past two days now the sound on my iPhone 4S has had a mind of its own. Everything was working fine up until I went to listen to some music on my headphones on my lunch break. When I disconnected my headphones and went to turn down my ringer I noticed that there was no sound bar. The volume bar on iTunes had disappeared also

I have tried EVERYTHING! Cleaning the charging port, cleaning the headphone jack, blow dryer, canned air, q tip, toothbrush, hard reset, manual reset, resetting on iTunes, etc... The volume control buttons work when they want to. I've toggled the silent/ sound button a million times. Some of these tips worked but only for a minute or so. The  only time I get sound at all is if headphones are plugged in or sometimes when my phone is charging. I have no idea what to do. I have contacted apple with no such luck. I have iOS 6, but I have never had an issue this far up until two days ago. I didn't drop my phone or anything. I did however drop my phone in water over a year ago and there has been no issue whatsoever so I don't believe that this situation has anything to do with it. I don't want to pay apple to fix my phone considering I did nothing to it to begin with. I have no idea what to do! This is such an overwhelming situation.

You just solved it for me.  This image means your phone (as mine was) is stuck in dock connector mode. So what I did was connect it back into a dock and start playing music through the connector. I then unplugged the iPhone from the dock and all sounds came back, and an iPhone button appeared into this screen.

I used an old ipodmdock with a line out connector.

My iphone 4s sound stopped working, i realised when my alarm was set to go off at 0615am, it didnt go off but just vibrated, luckily i was awake and got to work ontime, after doing everything in the sound mode and blowing into the sockets, i read on some site that they dropped the phone and it started to work thought why should i dropp my phone on the floor...anyways i did just to see and hey presto...all my sound is back on working

Just had this problem with girlfriends 4s. I turns out blowing in jack didn't work but putting headphones in and wiggling worked.

    Hope this helps someone.

I've had the same problem! if you press the home button twice, and scroll to the left until you see the volume bar, there is an "AirPlay" button. click on that and select iPhone. Alternatively if the iPhone option isn't available, play a video on YouTube and you will see the same "AirPlay" button, this should give you the option to play through your iPhone??

    Hope this helps!
