Q: Appleworks 6.2.9 running slowly - beach ball spinning. . .

Hi,

I posted this a while ago and got some great answers but it's happened again and I cannot find my files from the last repair suggestions. . .

My Appleworks program keeps getting slower and slower to open files and basically do all functions within the application. Is there some are where a "cache" is stored or some other area where files can be thrown away to get rid of files that are slowing it down? It doesn't matter if it's just a basic text page or a more elaborate file that I am opening or working with - it's just slow all the time. I am using Mac OS 10.4.11 and it is Appleworks 6.2.9

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

You should go to (user)/Documents/AppleWorks User Data/Starting Points/Recent Items and clear it out. Appleworks dumps aliases of every item you open here, and over a long period this can become a very long list and it slows AW down horrendously. It's worth clearing it out on a regular basis.

Roger, Thanks a lot, that seemed to have done the trick.  I remembered there was something like that but could not for the life of me remember the steps to complete the task.

    All the best!

    Hi Roger,

I'm thinking that there is one other thing I can do to help my Appleworks 6.2.9 work more efficiently/faster.  Isn't there another area where I can go into Library or preferences, etc. and dump two different cache files or something like that?  Any help would be appreciated.  I deleted all of the aliases in the recently opened folder but Appleworks still working a glacial speed.

    Thanks,

    Don

You could try going to (user)/Library/Preferences/Appleworks and deleting the contents other than 'AppleWorks 6 Button Bars' (if you haven't set up any custom buttons you can delete that as well). Do this while AW is not running.

Thanks Roger, I believe that was the additional fix I was thinking of but could not remember the chain to get me where I needed to go or what to do when I got there.  A little over a year ago, someone named 'Peggy' sent me a link to a web site called "Sticks and Stones"? or something like that - and they had the fix that you've suggested on there but I could not find that older file so your fix, I believe, was that one that has worked previously for me.

Thanks so much for your assistance!

You can only award one answer as 'correct', but 'helpful' is appreciated.
