Alternatives to Finder?

I'm fairly new to Mac but I'm wondering whether it's just me or do others find file management with Finder in OSX Lion a "challenge" compared to using Windows Explorer in Win XP or 7? And what third party alternatives are there out there that people can recommend that get closer to the Win Explorer ease of use?

In all other respects, I'm very pleased with the Mac experience ... but the file mangement thing drives me nuts!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2), iPad, iPhone 4S, iPods.

Some of the things I have a problem with:

  • not able to open to full screen .... it seems so crammed in to a tiny area on my 27" iMac
  • not able to re-size areas within the available space
  • drag & drop to move or copy
  • creating sub-folders in their proper location - they keep defaulting to the root location and I then have to manually move them
  • general feel of the old MS-DOS clunkiness - a very unsophisticated programme for such an otherwise sophisticated piece of IT equipment and OS

Sorry Have to agree finder is the ugly child that only a mother could love, I'm also searching for a replacement that a) works b) is fast c) is powerful

it's an oldie but something like XTGold for OSX would fit the bill just fine.

And doubly so with Lion what a dismal atempt at a filemanager interface I mean where is all the info where is the file info, directory info, current path perhaps nerdy stuff the the followers of the cult of mac do not need but hey a real filemanager would be most welcome.
