Adobe Flash Plug-in 10.1

Hi,

I know this post has been made loads of times and ive read them all but nothing's helped me.

On my Mac PPC 10.4.11 Tiger, ive been trying to upgrade to the latest flash for powerpc 10.1.

Ive followed all the innstruchtions of uninstalling and stuff.

Ive downloaded the archive and mounted the dmg and everything.

When i open the installer app it says it has been installed but it hasn't...the plug-in isnt in the internet plug-in folder.

When i view the contents and open the Adobe package app and try to to the BASIC PLUG-IN DOWNLOAD, it says "nothing to download"

Whats going on???

Please help,

Rachel x

No idea, but just to recap:

If you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. The first one on the list, Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.

Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).

In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.

This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Later versions of OS X.

An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:

By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.

Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

I'm pretty sure my method from my webpage (http://sdfox7.com/osx.htm) would work for you, I've never had a problem with it (I just copied and pasted):

For the final version of Flash Player 10 for PowerPC (10.1.102.64) (NOV 04 2010):

Visit Archived Flash Player Versions, download the archived 10.1 installer, then execute the file inside the ZIP titled "flashplayer10_1r102_64_ub_mac.dmg".

Ok...just to let you know...its worked! Amazing!

Basically, I did the whole process again, uninstalling and CLOSING ALL APPLICATIONS!

I think this is what affected the install.

Also...Repair Permissions was extremely useful!!!!!

I am soooo grateful, you guys are the best!!!!!

Thanks,

One other thing,

with Flash Player 10.0 vevo and other youtube videos were jerky and I couldn't watch iplayer.

with Flash Player 10.1 vevo youtube videos and less youtube videos jerky and iplayer very jerky.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem?

Thanks for all anyways,

Rachel x

If the videos remain jerky, you can try one of the following two things:

enroll in the HTML5 trial and play the videos in WebM format (follow the instructions here: http://www.webmproject.org/users/).

Your other option is to download and use MacTubes which during playback converts the Flash videos to QuickTime format. The MacTubes options might be easier for you to install and run: http://macapps.web.infoseek.co.jp/mactubes/index_en.html (direct download: http://macapps.web.infoseek.co.jp/mactubes/archives/MacTubes_v3.1.zip) Your machine must have QuickTime 7.6 for Mac OS X Tiger or later installed (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL760 direct download: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/QuickTime/061-536 8.20090121.C13C9E/QuickTime76_Tiger.dmg)) .
